Thank you listener and Catreona for your kind words. I'm hanging in there. Demetrius was up all night working on a project--which is always good news financially, but lonely as a spouse. And after all that work, the client basically said, "Yeah, we've decided to go in a different direction. Scrap that concept, and do it this other way." So, he'll be paid for the time he put in, but it's frustrating nonetheless. And tonight will be another long one.
As far as Winnie, I think I am sort of in shock. She went downhill much more quickly than Brady did. I keep expecting her to walk into the room. And listener, I know I did her a kindness. I could just see in her eyes that she wasn't having any fun.
But it sure isn't how I was expecting to spend my Sunday.
I imagine Demetrius has learned the same lesson I have: clients don't know what they want until the see it. And sometimes it's not even the actual client. A couple of months ago I was working on a grant application I thought was going well when word came that the university had decided to let only one application from the institution go forward -- and it wasn't ours. I had seen the other group's application and I didn't think it was anywhere near as strong as ours, but that didn't change the outcome.

Sounds reasonable; I've never lived in a place where where there was a need for such a term! Hmmmm.... it occurred to me that I should share a specialized local term, but quickly realized that I might not be able to recognize one because of its familiarity! I am, however, reminded of the old bumper cars at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk. They are long since replaced, but they didn't have much traction, and the effect was something like the white knuckle sleigh ride.
Did you see the links to Yule carols and suchlike I left on the previous thread?
As always, Howard is first in our thoughts. And today he is joined by Renee and Winnie.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bill.
ReplyDeleteHallo all.
ReplyDeleteHow are you holding up, Renee? Remember, you did a kindness for Winnie and helped her release more gently. ♥
I'll be wildly busy for the next four days, but it's mostly all marvelous fun! I'll pop by when I can.
Renee, I'm so very sorry♥ Believe me, I understand how terribly hard it is. Sending all chez in Ohio, especially you, my love.
