Mount Mansfield from Pleasant Valley (West)

  1. A far pleasanter looking valley than the Pleasant Valley I know in California (which is arid, although the weather is more pleasant than surrounding areas. Does pleasant scenery beget pleasant governors? Herodotus might have made the connection.

    Bill--I missed your first reference to dwarf corn; thanks. Similarly short varieties of cotton, grain and tomatoes (primarily to accommodate harvesting machines) have long been common.

    listener--I hadn't paid close attention to the numbers of churches in Montreal (or other Canadian cities we visited), except to note that they are certainly numerous.

    We set out on our trip home in half an hour.

    2. Yep, pretty good trip. Weather cooperated although it was rather humid for us; one very poor lodging (seven others fine), we missed the last tour bus in Ottawa (but had a self-unguided adventure as a result of becoming thoroughly lost--very poor signage on the streets), and one gallery I would have liked to check out at the Musee des Beaux Artes in Montreal was closed the day we were there but we saw a lot of great art. (I was nearly run down by a pair of speeding bicyclists who ran a red light in Montreal, but "almost only counts in Horseshoes.") And although I didn't lose any weight, neither did I gain any eating ad libidum

      Now to take care of some "getting back home" chores.

  2. Ah Alan, "Mid pleasures and palaces, though we may roam;
    be it ever so humble, there's no place like home."

  3. The die is cast.

    I just sent my updated Resume and Letter of Interest, as requested, to the Dem chair in town, for the Governor's consideration as a vacated Justice of the Peace term needs to be filled. The person who stepped down as JP, due to health reasons, was Hub Vogelmann. He died yesterday. Hub is the distinguished UVM professor who proved that acid rain was being caused by chemicals from factories! No one can ever fill his shoes.

  4. Sunday 0725 here; we arrived about 0030. Our internal clocks are somewhere back around Salt Lake City, and it took our cat little while to recognize us. All good.
