  2. So Vermont has more rain than it can use, and California doesn't have enough. It calls to mind one of the most memorable lines from the Book of Job: "Why does God cause rain to fall in the desert, where no man is?" (I probably paraphrase rather than quote the King James Bible, but then it wasn't in English to begin with.)

P.S.: Almost enough points on my credit card to get a free car for our Canada vacation. Sweet.

P.P.S.: Naomi got the apartment she hoped to get, a little farther from work but $500/month less than what her current apartment will cost in a month or so. (Her folks approve of the new apartment.) In three years her one-bedroom apartment has gone up by $600/month, or 43%. Rentals and house prices in the San Francisco Bay Area, at leas the west bay and south bay areas, have become even crazier; but that's where the jobs are, and the things that appeal to well educated young people. Folks transferring here from the Bay Area are at first rather shocked by the wage scale--but then they realize that the cost of living is proportional.

I have mixed feelings about the action the US Supreme Court took on the Voting Rights Act; it might work out all right. On marriage equality it is a half step, but I suppose the other half will be taken care of in the not too distant future. In the meantime we may be able to witness the spectacle of the GOP tearing itself limb from limb. Pass the popcorn, please.

    1. As you know, I am not normally a violent person. But that image has strange appeal.

  3. We had an 80% chance of rain/thunderstorms yesterday. And nada. And the chance of rain/thunderstorms for the next week has been jumping all around for two days. Tuesday was as low as 20% last night, is now back up to 50% and I'm sure will change around again.

Meanwhile, having some lovely wind today. And the humidity is about half what it was at midnight: am grateful for anything I can get.

Talked to the kiddle for about an hour last night about plans. New ETA is Saturday, and leaving time maybe the 3rd. (His daughter, clarinet player, is in the Fourth of July parade with her band.) He's bringing a turkey and we're gonna do a Summer Thanksgiving: it'll be the first time both of my boys have been together with me since his wedding!

    1. Clarinet player in her marching band! Papa must be very proud. Quite apart from the fact that the clarinet happens to be my own favorite instrument.

Sounds like a lovely time in view, Puddle.

  4. The stair lifts are going to be installed July Second. But there is some last-minute work,, cleaning, paint touch up, to be done. So, I won't be able to come upstairs to my study for a couple of days. It will be worth the inconvenience! I am sooo much looking forward to the lift!

  7. Friday was the 39th Anniversary of our wedding! Another deluge was predicted and came Thursday night and early Friday morning. But then the sun came out for the afternoon!! So we went to Church Street and had lunch at Leunig's Bistro, then tonight we went to the Vermont Philharmonic's Pops Concert, which ended with fireworks! Stellar!!

I sure do love Mah*Sweetie! A true keeper! And the best thing about our celebration is that we made the last payment on our mortgage!!!
