  3. Hi guys!

This week has been a bit more eventful than we're used to around here.

Monday the carpenters were working, though I can't quite remember what they were doing. I slept exceptionally badly.
Tuesday the workers worked on the sunporch roof. we went to the doctor to get the form signed so I can get the Mass. sales tax back on the purchase of the chair lift. More on that in a moment. While taking my wheelchair out of the house and down to the driveway, Dad fell down the back porch stairs, hurting his arm and getting a nasty scrape on the knee (which, curiously, didn't tear his pants let). The semi-permanent ramp for the back porch steps arrived shortly thereafter, which as Sis pointed out was pretty ironic. That was a good thing though since, as we foolishly thought, it meant Dad could rest.

Sis came into the doc's with me, as she always does; and it's a good thing she did! We had the Devil's own time persuading her that the stair chair was necessary. Without recounting the entire encounter, suffice it to say she didn't impress either of us with her quickness of perception or her sensitivity. She finally signed the form with the air of one conferring a tremendous favor. We were mighty glad to get out'a there!

When we got home, we found that rather than resting, Dad had put together the ramp, which struck us as above and beyond to the point of foolishness. That afternoon he also had an encounter with an OSHA inspector because of the roofing workers. He mouthed off to the inspector, calling him "a little IRS." He repeated this to me, apparently thinking it very clever and expecting my approbation...which was not forthcoming. Finally the roof work got finished.

Wednesday, Sis and Mum persuaded Dad to go to the ER. He must have been feeling very poorly indeed, because he not only agreed to that, but further agreed that Sis should stay with him. Come to find out, his arm was broken! They put him in a sling and gave him Vikadin(sp?) for the pain. He goes Monday morning to see a nurse to make sure the medicine isn't interfearing with his prescriptions and in the afternoon to be checked over by the orthopedic surgeon.

Meanwhile, in order to get onto the sunporch roof, the workers needed to go through the attic, which meant leaving the attic door open most of the day. It seems Vivie Kitty decided she wanted to transform into her alter-ego of intrepid explorer, as Sis says with her little pith helmet) and go trekking in Deepest, Darkest Attic. We've hardly seen her since. She does stroll in from time to time to have a snack or use the potty, but even at night - the past couple nights have been chilly!) she stays in there. I guess she thinks she's the great cat of the Veldt or something. Of course it's stimulating for her - a whole lot more stimulating than sleeping in her basket all the time. But it's also a trifle worrisome. Last night I tried to entice her back with brushy-brush. But though she paused and looked back twice, she proceeded across the landing to tara incognita.

    1. If we left our attic door open, I'm sure Morticia would be up there much of the time. As it is, any time we need to go up there it is a challenge to make sure she is not close enough to dash in while the door is open.

  4. I had a minor irritation this afternoon, though it really got under my collar. YouTube has foisted yet another change on its users. Hard though it is to imagine, YouTube is now even more unattractive and harder to use than ever. One of the so-called improvements is the ability to add channel art to one's channel. Quite some time ago listener said I could use one of her lovely photos on a video. That particular video got blocked (Don't get me started on YouTube's arbitrary blocking of videos!) so I thought it might be nice to use that particular photo for my channel art. First they told me it was too small. I enlarged it to the required dimensions. It wouldn't take and wouldn't take. Finally it took and because of the size and cropping etc., it looked terrible - not at all as such a lovely photo ought to look. So I tried, and tried, to replace the photo with one of their canned images, and that wouldn't take! So now I'm stuck with a distorted misrepresentation of a beautiful photo that no one will appreciate. GRR!

    1. Ah, got it! Not my first choice image, of course, but using one of theirs is definitely the way to go. And I've found a view that actually lets me see all the pertinent info on each video...well, except for likes and dislikes. But I'll take what I can get.

  5. listener dry. The hurricane went a good bit easter than predicted, so we just got drips.

Cat, how frustrating. Hope your dad's on the mend, and the puss comes down.

  6. Did I mention? Last weekend I got a webcam. Not checked out on it yet, but one of these days yours truly will be on Skipe. Who'd'a thunk?

    1. No webcam here, nor plans for one. I've done text chats on Skype and part of Worldcon planning. And my client and I do both text and voice chats on Yahoo Messenger.

But knowing that Cat has a webcam does make the idea more attractive.

  7. Wow, Cat! Some week you've had there! I can hardly imagine what it must have been like for your Dad to work on the ramp with a broken arm! I'll bet you're glad to be on this side of that event...!

I need a Tara Incognita! Can I come hang out in the attic with Vivie? =^. .^=

  8. Things have been much too eventful in your neck of the woods, Cat; here's to ordinariness and the ho-hums!

Hot here today; the official high was 109 degrees, but it was 108 at 5 PM, so I wouldn't be surprised if it really got up to 110. We put off yard work until 7 PM and worked until sundown at 8:30, when it was a mere 101 degrees. Towards sundown a nice little breeze came up. I think tomorrow is supposed to max out at 99, and Monday at a relatively frigid 89 (which is comfy around here--daytime summer humidity is about 16 to 20 %).

Odd that we got almost no cherries this year, but the plum and persimmon trees set exceptionally large crops. We didn't think to thin the plums, so they are relatively small. All the better for making plum wine.

Planning for our trip to Canada is coming along nicely. Looks like I'll have a couple of consulting jobs that will cover the costs.

On the way to court the other day I was negotiating a big (for Fresno) tangle of a freeway intersection/interchange that is undergoing construction, with blocked lanes and all that. The traffic suddenly slowed down (big surprise), and I and the car behind me had to brake a little suddenly--and the BIG tractor-trailer rig two vehicles back from me had to swerve over into the lane to the left to avoid hitting the car in front of him/her and knocking it into me, and maybe me into the next car. So I almost won another new car in the same way we got a new one last year. Not quite, though. But on the way back to the lab after court I was thinking, Hmmmmm.....should it be a Toyota? A Honda? Which model? Hmmmmm.....

    TTFN. Keep cool, all.

    1. Alan, I believe you deserve the Good Attitude award for gamely working outside in temps over 100 degrees and dealing with a near-miss with a tractor-trailer by wondering what sort of car you might get if this one gets creamed...! To me, both events seemed like dangerous situations dealt with with grace. I salute you!
