Suddenly, Mizzen eats dry food! Spinnaker already does. Whoo hoo! We might not go broke on wet food after all! . I wonder if she was teething and it hurt too much before.
Uninstalled the AVG, ran the CCleaner, am downloading another copy. This bodes well: 28% in a half hour. It's NOT going to take 11 hours to download, lol! The old copy had been on since 7/20, and had *never* managed to do the virus definitions update. . . .
Any minute now, lol! I love the "warning": This may take a few minutes. How soon we forget. . . . When I got online, computers were small, and programs were small, pages were lightweight, and the divide between dialup and the rest wasn't that great, for most things. . . . NOW? Big honking computers, big honking pages and programs. . . . I jus' get further and further away from possible.
I miss the early days in some ways and not in others. In those days I was a "power user" -- someone who knew how to use the available features to make the computer do what I wanted it to do. I could even write batch files to automate sequential steps. No longer. It's all hidden behind firewalls, and for good reason. But I can get today's computers to do things that I could never have imagined a quarter-century ago. On the whole, I consider it a good trade-off.
I started noticing about thirty years ago, that so often there's a four or five day period in early August that *feels* just about like REAL autumn. And am very grateful for that!!
It looks like my friend with the breast cancer may be changing surgeons. Her primary care doc has still never received the lab report!!! It seems her primary doc and the surgeon are at different hospitals. If she switches, she will be able to use the Breast Car Center, which is so kind and supportive, instead of a cold doctor and rigid hospital. Fingers, toes, eyes and prayers crossed.
If anyone here has my old email address .... the new one is the same name except it ends in @gmail.com instead of @yahoo.com. I'm doing this "the lazy man's way" (one of my mom's favorite sayings) because it's quicker and easier and I'm just one fat, tired little old grandma who's always afraid the computer may wake from its stupor and bite me someday when I let down my guard.
Speaking of computers, I'm feeling sort of dumb this evening. One of the things that Microsoft "repair" did was to mess up the licensing for my copy of Acrobat Standard. The message said uninstall and reinstall. So I uninstalled and tried reinstalling from the installation program on my hard drive. Which told me my serial number was invalid.
When I finally got around to contacting Adobe tech support (didn't seem worth while until I knew the big problem was solved), I was told that the serial number I had was for a DVD version. Huh?? Since when did I ever buy the DVD version of anything? But sure enough, when I checked through my disks, there was a DVD version of Acrobat Standard. (I had finally realized that the installation program on my hard drive was for Acrobat Pro.)
Dean, Dean, he's our man!!
ReplyDeleteForgot to mention some really big Thursday news:
ReplyDeleteSuddenly, Mizzen eats dry food! Spinnaker already does. Whoo hoo! We might not go broke on wet food after all! . I wonder if she was teething and it hurt too much before.
BTW, that white Seaspray Rose was actually by the sea, on Cape Cod.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful rose!
DeleteSince cats won't eat what they can't smell, maybe her congestion has kept her from smelling the dry food up til now. . . .

ReplyDeleteSounds good! May all continue to go well.
DeleteAlas, lol! That was just the installer. . . . Still, it's not going to be 11 hours. We're about 3/4 done right now. . . .
Delete38.5MB of 40.3MB. . . .
ReplyDeleteSo, is it finished?

DeleteI miss those early days too.

DeleteBut see my other message ...
We had rain today, Hallelujah!

DeleteYes, I've noticed that too. Curious. And then we get Indian Summer, which is also welcome.
DeleteDone! (Well, almost: it's updating virus definitions) (I hope!!!)
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that the virus program is finally up and running. Virus programs are essential.
DeleteHappy sweet successes, puddle!
ReplyDeleteAnd happy sweet rain, Cat!

Yes, your friend has enough to fight without including a cold doctor and rigid hospital. She'll be wise to change surgeons and I wish her success.
DeleteLOL! Breast Car Center = Breast Care Center

ReplyDelete*grin* Susan
DeleteAnd a vicious byte a computer has, too.
*duck and run*
I'm sure they *do* byte quite a number of people. That's why they have so many bits .... leftovers.
DeleteBA DA BOOM!
DeleteThanks, Susan! Got it! ♥
DeleteI LIKE the idea of a breast car. But I'll bet that's just a darn typo. . . .
ReplyDeleteYep! Car = Care
DeleteBut I'll bet a Breast Car would give the Smart Car and the Volkswagon Bug a run for their money!

Bill...I remember the punch cards! Ha!

It's possible, but her nose has been fine the last month or so...we thought anyway.
BTW, smart of cats to be careful like that! =^. .^=
