Yellow Peony

  1. I heard Howard's first-most like. . . And I believe!

listener, in awe of your computer storage needs, lol! Just checked my *total* use -- I'm at 15.6 out of 55.8 GB. I can get a 16 GB flash drive for $28, and make the transfer in one swell foop! And it's the very *top* rated flash drive! $49 for a 32 GB drive. . . . Awesome what's out there!

  2. A friend of mine just lost a beloved dog. He posted on Facebook that he'd rather not be inundated with FB messages on the subject, but I thought a candle page might be appreciated. (Took me bloody forever to figure out how to upload a new web page, but I think I finally managed it.)

Click this link to light a candle.

    1. Done! Funny thing -- I did get tears. Remembering how hard it is, anticipating how hard it will be.

  3. Love the weather peeps, lol! I just checked, and chance of rain has gone from 40% to 20% -- I usually get rain at 40, and NOT at 20. Which means some hand watering in my near future. Which I am at least set up to do. . . .

listener, glad the bicycle experience turned out well for the little. I was truly biting my tongue yesterday not to rain on your parade, remembering what a disaster it was for my first born. So bad that he refused to try again until he was in his twenties, and had the choice at Greenbank, of parking the car, and walking several miles in, or learning to ride the bikes kept at the parking lot. Evidently there's enough electricity in a cars motor to throw off the telescopes, that they must be kept at a distance. He bit his tongue and learned to ride.

Delighted at the training wheels! Maybe we waited too long -- at six, he refused training wheels because it was *baby* stuff. But neither was his balance good enough to keep him from spilling. And he did NOT like spilling. . . . His little brother inherited the bike the next year, took his spills (he was excellent at taking spills, lol!) and learned to ride. Scott refused any further offers.

  4. Also thinking -- in China, peeps constantly asked me if my son, twelve, could drive a car at home in America? Seemed odd to me, so I asked WHY they asked. Simple: in China, children DON'T ride bikes, they're an adult form of transportation. So if he could and did ride/own one in China, maybe he had a car at home?

Josh courted me on the same bike his dad had courted his mother on, thirty years earlier. And it still ran fine. A couple of new chains, several sets of new pedals, but basically: good to go.

    1. I think I was 9 when I learned to ride a bike. Good transportation for getting around Pine Bluff. Not particularly suited for any place I lived after that. And today, of course, I don't ride a bike for the same reason I don't drive a car.

  5. Thanks, puddle. "Reply" is not working for no apparent reason. There are now three candles lit, inlcluding the one I messed up but couldn't figure out how to delete. I've posted my plea several places, even venturing back into Daily Kos, but still only 3 candles. Bummer.

Perkins is barfing a lot lately.

Daughter is off at writing camp for two weeks. Trying to send her little notes and tiny care packages, because I know she's uneasy in new social situations. Even though said daughter doesn't especially like me. I guess that's just how I roll...

    1. Welcome! I remember so clearly that someone set up one for Edwin, and it *was* a major comfort to see/feel the caring.

    2. 10 candles now! (I lit 2.)

    3. Much appreciated. Super tired now. Perkins, in addition to being an escape artist, has been barfing lately. Winnie seems much better than she did a week ago.

Daughter is off at a Young Writers' Workshop for the next two weeks.

Anyway, thanks again, and "under the wing".

    4. In some ways I envy your daughter. At that age I had no slightest clue I would ever be a writer. And the notion that a "Young Writer's Camp" might exist would have been beyond comprehension.

  6. Oh, Yay!! 41° tonight and 45° tomorrow night. Best sleeping weather in the world. Alas, then morphing into hot at the end of the week. Guess you can't have everythang, so I'll settle.

Got the patio (porch) chairs finished with repainting, and the seats back in: extremely fetching! Tomorrow the table! Looks like my four cans of family dollar $1 cans are going to be more than enough. May have to find something *else* to paint white, lol!

First chair I was happily working on, looked up to find Beau sitting my garden (as far away from me as he could get), praying. When I opened the door to come in, he actually beat me in! And stayed quite a while.

  7. I was checking out the weather for our trip today. Seattle: Highs in the mid-60s. Juneau: Highs in the mid-50s, with rain or at least showers every day for the next 10 days.
