  1. No one has yet observed that Howard is first? He is, of corurse.

  2. Power just back on after a 24-hour outage following a storm. My sister just told me there were a million without power statewide. Whew! Nothing but admiration for our ancestors who lived without electricity.

  3. Welcome back, Susan!

    Proud Mom alert!
While I was at work today, Sweetie, Root*Center*Son and Youngest were out on Lake Champlain in the annual Valcour Race. Boats leave the inner bay, travel across the outer bay and onto the broad Lake, across the Lake (to the NY side), navigate around Valcour Island and come back. On a good wind day, like today, it takes about 4.5 hours. They came in second, missing first by just 30 seconds! I asked if they flew the Jolly Roger (which they usually do). Youngest responded: "American flag this time due to July 4th proximity and Obamacare upholding :)"

  4. Uh oh...

News came out this week that the most trusted local source for organic compost may have become tainted with herbicides! Plants are withering and the folks who tend the compost are having it tested. People have been told not to eat any produce from related gardens until the lab results come back.

Good vibes welcomed for the Root Center...my son's non-profit which grows food for the local food banks! The nice folks who have the compost donated mounds of it to the Root Center again this year (yes, in bulk). We're waiting to hear what it means. Maybe their batch isn't too bad. Or maybe ALL their work for the season is toast...! Lab results should come back later this week. As I said, good vibes welcomed!

    1. The great irony is that this is affecting the only part of Vermont that wasn't made toxic from the Irene floodwaters last year. =Sigh=

  5. Been fairly busy all day, yet don't seem to have accomplished much. Which translates as I didn't do what I planned but instead took care of other things that came up. Objectively not a particularly unproductive day.

    And with that, to bed.
