Don't have a clue as to what woke me. Twasn't pain.
Annoyed with weather people: They dropped the temp prediction by 8 degrees and added rain. Just before bedtime. I'd been better off doing the fetch water project yesterday, alas. And oh, well. . . . Back to bed to get the energy to get this done. At least I don't have to do it again for five or six weeks. By which time it'll be full blown spring!
Maybe the rain will hold off. Keep us posted. If it's pouring, go to town and buy a couple gallons of spring water to tide you over until it's sunny; we don't want you too near a rising river alone, m'dear.
Well, I dragged myself out of bed at 8:05am, and as I stepped out of the shower the phone rang. It was my coworker from the Library saying that her daughter-in-law is now also home sick, so she doesn’t need to switch with me after all. “Never mind.” Great. Not only did I get up early on a day that’s going to end late, but I get to get up early tomorrow morning too, and not have the whole weekend off with Mah*Sweetie as we thought. :-( Bummer.
I’ll be sure to sleep in on Sunday “until I wake up natural” since I have to get up for a staff meeting on Monday. But, ah, I could easily have slept another hour this morning. One good thing is that, generally speaking, I slept better last night. I may still try to grab 40 winks before the rest of my day gets going. Most ironically, I have sunshine here, and would have gladly had rain if puddle could have had sun today.
No problem, lol! I have almost twenty gallons in the water keeper. But it's going to be VERY cold this next week, this was to be the last warmish sunny day.
As a matter of fact, it is sunny right now. And about 20 degrees, brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
Despite trying to talk myself out of this all day, looks like I'll be getting water today. The weather report for the next week is simply too bad, and without relief, to ignore. Snow tonight, with up to four inches, Sunday to be the coldest day this winter, no thaw all week, more snow. . . SO: the hose is out, and down to the river, the bucket's at the foot of the back stairs, the electrical cord's down by the river, wrapped in a toasty towel (it's snowing), tank cover, open and waiting, paths cleared. Remains to take the pump and primer out, and start. The primer, interestingly, is cooking oil, so you can't just leave the hose in the tank. And once it starts to pump, no shutting off the flow. So the first part is letting it flow on the ground till the veggie oil is out, then inserting hose in bucket as you carry the bucket into the house, and switch the hose to the tank. Which is the only dicey part. Follow on will follow. Right now just warming up to tackle the last and wettest stage. Oh, forgot: the pump intake has to be inside a pillow case to filter out the small junk you don't want in your water -- sand, tiny pebbles, etc. Now, to find a pillow case, lol! See ya'll later.
Well, not quite done: tank's about half full. Think less than half an hour. Being careful, here -- last time it flooded over for Scottie. Got my kitchen timer on 15 minute intervals. . . . Gonna get my 110 gals, and fill the four five-gallon (well not *full*) buckets that I use alla time, so I'll have around 125 gallons to play with before next need. . .
Bit of trubble getting hoses hooked up (it's cold, and they're not wanting to uncurl nicely, lol!), but on the whole not really difficult. Once full, reverse the process, and sigh in relief.
Still a bit to go. Hard part's going be gathering stuff up after dark. Ah, well: mea culpa -- I didn't factor in how long until dark. Be okay. Doing some general cleanup --which I tend to delay when water's getting low -- whilst I wait. Feels a good bit like waiting for Christmas, lol!
I am soooo unspeakably relieved for you!!! These cold days that require so much certainly build character. But, geez, I thought you were already quite a character. ;-)
Nestle in for the crezzy cold days and enjoy your good labours.
One class ends next Thursday, the other on the last day of the month. No word about next quarter.
Sleeping on the couch a lot because it's easier to tend to Brady at night that way. A lot of the time when he gets up, he doesn't actually need to go outside--just to shift position. But he needs a fair bit of space to do that--and there's more space in the living room.
Anyway, I could do with some positive vibes in my direction.
Howard's my guy! Still.
ReplyDeleteNice long full talk with Thankful tonight. She's getting better, getting enough sleep and sounding so much better than a month ago. Love that woman!

Your willingness to help another goes on the credit side of the ledger, listener.
ReplyDeleteThat IS cute, listener. I don't think Jon Stewart has to worry about competition from Ms Pelosi, though [grin].

ReplyDeleteThanks, Alan. I do appreciate credit on the ledger, I really do. Still, an hour of sleep would also feel pretty nice. ;-)
