Day 1: Had a dry spot in my throat that quickly became a mild sore throat with malaise (enough that I just sat there and watched a movie in the afternoon).
Day 2: Malaise almost gone, but throat a little more sore at first, then dissipating. The occasional odd sneeze...the sort that seems all shut up inside the sinus, but quickly requires tissues.
Day 3: Waking up 4 hours after falling asleep, due to coughing...which begins chesty and productive of phlegm. Lots more nasal congestion as well.
Is this "just" a fast-acting cold, or something more worrisome? I don't think I've actually had a fever with this. (Not sure as our thermometer needs a new battery; getting one today.)
Suggestions?
So, I've taken Robitussin DM (cough med with expectorant) and am headed back to bed. Coveting your good vibes, prayers and well wishes. And thanks! ♥

Just at freezing, bright and blue. Promising to be about 60º!!
Telephone guy just showed up (a day late -- the line was so good yesterday, I thought they'd fixed it!). Had to weave my way out past a dancing Beau to talk to him. He's a new one, so not so good -- at least Mike knew what *not* to waste his time looking for. I so wish DSL would show up as planned/projected. Keeps yer fingers crossed that I get a month or two of relief from this visit. . . .
This is shaping up to be a warm, dry winter. There were photos in the newspaper of folks skating on a lake in the high Sierras that is normally under at least ten feet of snow at this time of year. Tioga Pass Road is open, as is the road to Glacier Point, overlooking Yosemite Valley, and the Yosemite Valley floor is clear and dry--not a speck of snow. This is all very unusual. We are using the heater much less than usual.
Alan, it's all the more strange to realise that the warmer, drier Winter is happening from your shore to mine. It seems we have a more northerly jet stream this year, along with the El Nina effect.
Oh, just learned that Renee got to go to karaoke last night, with Demetrius, and that pizza was involved. :-D I'm sooo happy it was a happy birthday!!!
We had here a karaoke bar which was waiting for an official liquor license. So he was just operating on a bring your own bottle. So we did; and the whole family -- sort of like a church picnic. There was a jar for his operating expenses. It was such fun! Truth told, I'd had no idea how much fun up until then. He never did get his license, and gave up after a couple of years (w/interesting story in between). Was totally gone by the time I got back from caring for my mom. But those were some sweet Sunday afternoons into evenings.
I'm way too introverted for karaoke, but am glad some folks have a good time with it. This Sunday is our annual Town Tea, which we do in January as a kind of Cabin Fever event.
Here's the notice I got this week from Jessica, our Town Clerk:
The Jericho Town Tea is this Sunday at the Jericho Town Hall * drop in style 2 to 5 PM with a theme "Open-mic Thank you" -- this can be interpreted however you wish (and does not need to rhyme like we have tried in the past)
Also people are encouraged to bring Jericho photos to share from the extreme storms we have been through in the last few years.
Hot drinks (coffee, tea, cider & cocoa) will be provided. Please bring tea sandwiches or a finger food dessert to share. (We will make a plate for the Road Crew as at Thank You for all their hard work.)
If my cold doesn't worsen, we may go over for awhile. I have some photos I could drop off, at least.
I think the thing that surprised me about it, is how exposed you *don't* feel. . . . Groups, for one, can get up an do it together. But even when you're up there alone, you have the singer, and the orchestra there, too. You're just part of a musical crowd, as it were.
Got our train/plane reservations for the Seattle trip done last night. And guess what? We're going to fly back grom Seattle First Class!
Here's the full story: The original plan was to take the train both ways. But the cruise ship gets back on Sunday morning, and for some odd reason the train from Seattle to Chicago costs $350 more (for 2 people in a roomette) on Sunday than on Monday. It would actually be cheaper to stay over a night. But I was already worried about how close our return would be to the Disability Pride Parade, with all the things the Treasurer needs to take care of. Then it occurred to me, "Hey! We've got frequent flyer miles." Only it turns out -- again for no truly obvious reason -- that the usual 12,500-mile one-way economy class reward wasn't available. But for 25,000 miles was could get First Class seats on the flight we wanted. And we each had more than 25,000 miles. So that's what we did.
What a trip! The first and almost surely only cruise of our lives and the first and probably only First Class plane ride. Wow!?!
Nice! I've managed to be bumped up to first class two times in my life. Better n average, considering how seldom I even fly. Wonder if the food is still so MUCH better?
That wouldn't be hard, considering that on American the only thing resembling a meal that you can buy in economy (it's not free any more) is a turkey sandwich that Penny absolutely refuses to eat because it has mayonnaise on it.
I had some really nice prime rib and tiny new veggies on one of my bump ups. And a crab salad. It's *also* wonderful to be able have your elbows within your own seating space, lol! Sounds like an absolute dream trip, Bill! I'm sure you two will have a wonderful time!
I've flown on little flights to and from NC. But the one time I flew over the Pond and back was when Daughter took me as my 50th birthday gift. She had so many frequent flyer miles that we went First Class on Lufthansa. I have seldom eaten such delicious food! Be sure to "clean your plate." ;-)
Well, the meal is described as a "snack," which I suspect means there is no way to prepare a hot meal even in first class. But just having more of a choice would be a plus.
Howard's is da foisiest, yanno?
ReplyDeleteAlways *loved* this holiday: it's so *subtle*!
Yes, subtle and bright. The best.

I'm eager to hear what flavour cake Cat enjoys today, and especially what flavour(s) ice cream!!
ReplyDeleteMmmm, ice cream.
I hope Renee saw her birthday wishes here, from yesterday!
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering what special treats she may have gotten for her special day (besides the pleasure of a new job)...!

A productive cought doesn't sound good in my ears. if it's not better by now, I don't think a call to the doctor's office would be unreasonable.
