  1. Howard is first, of course.

Listener's newly employed hubby is first too, as is Renee! W00T!

  2. Thanks, Susan. I sometimes wondered if I was the only person who felt that way. I hope Charlie can settle down and get on with his life now...as far from Alachua as humanly possible!

  3. Hi, Cat!

listener--hubby's new job does sound good; and with your eldest already working there he should have had advance notice of whether the coworkers are likely to be naughty or nice. Hmmmm.... software engineer? Isn't that what YOU do? Quilts, pillows, etc.? As for temperature preferences, I still like you even if you are an extremophile [grin]. California's Central Valley (where we live) has unusually warm winters for being so far inland, and the reason is rather odd. The Sierra Nevada is plenty cold, and there is a constant downdraft of cold air from up there, which is caught by the coastal mountains. But the cold air falls so far that it is heated by compression, and anything colder than a light frost is unusual.

The notary came around to our house this morning and we took care of all the papers and the (trivial) closing costs for our new home loan. We got a conventional loan for two percent less than our previous loan, and plan to pay it off in ten years, which should work out just about right (that's when I plan to cut back to working part time).

Debating which book to read next--some more Darkover, or Zenna Henderson? It might depend on what comes in the mail tomorrow or the next day.l The C.S. Forester detective fiction will wait for a bit; but my copy of "The Pursued" should be on its way from the UK either now or soon. "Payment Deferred" is in hand.

  5. Love the wall hanging in the picture (speaking of software. . . .)

  6. Gonna be much warmer today -- mid thirties, and warmer still tomorrow. Love it!

  7. Well, I think I'd enjoy being a Softwear Engineer, if I could only sew on the sleeves well. LOL!
No pillows, but I do enjoy the quilts! :-)

It gets better. He'll also be working with one of Daughter's former bridesmaids...best friends from their college days. We haven't seen her in some years, but there is definitely a fondness within the family. The whole team seems pretty decent, as we understand it, and the boss is absolutely great. Of course, Sweetie will actually have to work hard for his excellent job. Ha! Ah, there's the rub. ;-) But I've never seen him so eager!

Today the formal, written offer is expected to arrive. Mah*Sweetie got the day(evening) off from his temp job, too. So we hope he'll be able to complete the last details for the new job today.

Meanwhile, I have a cold with sort throat. Blah. No fever, and the throat doesn't look too bad, so it's surely "just" viral. So off to work I go in the snow.

BTW, I figured out what causes it to snow this year. All you have to do is set your trash and recycling out a day early by mistake! We woke to 2-3" of new snow!

  8. I was wrong --> have 40º right now! Blue skies and sunshine! Boy's out lounging on the front porch, a truly happy camper.

Called the surgeon's office to get my post op appt. February 7. 1:30 for an X-ray; 2:15 to talk to doc. Good to go. Easy mid-day commute. Prolly stop at Costco in Harrisionburg on the way back. Gosh, that's almost ☆Spring☆!!

  9. Right now: the whole world is a gorgeous rose gold. (And so is Beau, looking in my front window.) Just realizing this means it's still light a full half hour after winter dark at solstice! Am always surprised how quickly the light returns!

  10. Talked with Thankful, who's feeling a whole lot better. Even has had a couple of full night's sleep! We're thinking of waiting till it's warmer, and *doing* something. Will see.

Kid called, and is pleased I'm doing so good. Me, too, lol!

  11. I'm home from work and glad of it! It was a wildly busy day at the Library, culminating in a big Story Hour and Craft Time which brought numerous whole families to the Library, bringing back stacks of children's books and checking out stacks more! Whoo! I managed to smack my head on the corner of the checkout counter, as I stood up from placing some books on the cart. Hit hard on my right temple and my glasses when flying. I heard the sound of it ~ pretty loud ~ and thought I'd find my glasses in pieces, but they're unscathed! All I got was a red mark (and maybe later a bruise) but, I am so amazed to tell you, I didn't even get a headache from it. Could I really have escaped getting a concussion? Wow!

But I have an even more amazing escape to report...! Mah*Sweetie got the written job offer today and has officially accepted it! He starts work on January 23rd and we've decided that tomorrow will be his last day at the mundane data entry temp job he's been doing for 7 months. :-) That means he'll have two weeks OFF. Sweet. What makes this all the more amazing is that a woman who did this very job for some years at this very company called Mah*Sweetie's new boss on Tuesday and told him that she is ready to come back, ready to sign on the dotted line. Mind you, she was offered the job in late November but she declined it. The boss could have let her come back, and had someone already trained for the position. He had not yet called Sweetie to offer him the job, and did not know for sure that Mah*Sweetie would accept the job if offered. But he still told the woman the position had already been filled. He hung up from talking with her and called Mah*Sweetie, and offered him the job verbally. The reason? Her inconstancy about wanting the job versus his integrity. So, you see what sort of boss he now has! (And how close he came to not getting the position. =Whew!=

  15. Phew! Close call, that.

  16. Boy, too close for comfort. But da new boss sounds like a *real* winner: always nice to work for/with. And blessings on the poor woman who tooted around a bit too much.

  17. And ditto on the birthday wishes!

  18. Puddle, have you had trouble posing on FB today? Now another thread there won't let me either type or paste. Poo!

  20. Nope, not today. But some days, I surely do. I think it has something to do with *how* your computer grabs fb stuff when it's setting up. And, in general, mine has a LOT of trubble with fb's software/code or sumpin. . . Sometimes rebooting will do the trick for me. But sometimes not.

  21. Lol! That puppy could be Beau's Other Brother.

  22. The problem may be with my software - browser and/or screen reader - rather than FB. Also having difficulty on the Settings page for Arty.

Speaking of Arty, I've posted there three times so far this week. Today's is rather lengthy, considering I haven't gotten anything much done. Imagine how much I'd have to say if I actually accomplished anything? *shudder*

  23. Sweetie will have to work at his new job? Merciful Heavens!
[Psst: I think he'll be all right.]

I knocked off "early" today so we could get over to the notary's office and sign two papers we missed yesterday. The work I left for the morning should neither take long nor hold anyone up to speak of. An eight-hour day is rather restful... Found a book of Zenna Henderson short stories (Holding Wonder) waiting for me at home, so that is what I am starting on. Maybe back to Darkover with Traitor's Sun next, but it hasn't come in yet.

  24. Yeah, puddle, I sent a prayer out into the Universe for her. It seemed to those in the know that it wasn't the job she really wants to be doing. I would that everyone could do what their heart really wants to do for lifework.

  25. He's champing at the bit to begin, Alan. It's going to be awesome. :-)

  26. Me three!!!

And I'm heartglad that Thankful is getting well too.
It's like parallel play for you two, eh?

  28. Thanks for the birthday wishes, everyone.

Currently too tuckered to say much. Working on getting up to speed with teaching--but everyone has been really nice. Then this morning, I had a (paid) career development workshop at the old school. I'm still in their system as an employee, so I'm taking advantage of any resources still available to me. Planning to get a nice, full night's sleep tonight before getting back to work on school stuff.
