Snow Day

  1. Whoo hoo! Howard Dean is First!

How fun that I set this photo and title for today and now it may come true today!
    We're expecting 2-6" of snow!

  2. I happened to look up duffle coats (as a consequence of looking up byrrus britannicus), and was lead to the Gloverall web site [http://www.gloverall.com/]--they're the big name in duffle coats. Good heavens, what great looking coats! Expensive, granted, but I feel toasty just looking at them, and I expect one would last a lifetime! The problem is that I could never justify the cost, living in such a mild climate. Ah, well.

TTFN; it's past my bedtime by a good bit.

  4. We have an inch of snow and the yard looks VERY much like in the photo...just not sunny yet as it's still snowing. But the temp is close to 35, so I don't know if we'll get to keep it.

  5. About to head out for town: Need to lay in supplies of soft/clear food for the post op period. My town is closing down already. The doctors and the garage are already off till Tuesday. Take that back: the docs will be back on Monday -- I have a blood test Monday morning, at eight (the potassium and thyroid levels).

  6. Back from town: stocked up on post op-supplies. Two gallons white grape juice. 8 pouches of various flavored mashed potatoes. Three cans each chicken noodle, cream of mushroom, tomato soup. Three cans cranberry sauce. Two quarts eggnog. Twenty pounds of chicken quarters for crock pot (and Beau). Lettuce, tomatoes, avocados, spring onions, giant seedless cucumber. Four half-gallons of ice cream: Rocky Road, Black Raspberry Surprise, Mint Choc Chip, Raspberry. Three six packs of Mountain Dew. Ten Hershey bars. Four pounds of sweet cream, unsalted butter. Two pounds frozen broccoli. I seldom to never buy that much processed food, and was a bit shocked at my check out bill.

  7. Prolly more salt in that lot than I've eaten in the whole past year, lol!

  10. I'm heading out for provisions now too, having worked 4 hours at the Book Mine today.

Came home to a note from Mah*Sweetie saying he learned today that the company he is waiting on is mostly shut down next week. They all come back on January 3rd. So we'll need to wait awhile longer. But so far no one else has been interviewed! There is a sense of urgency to hire someone before the company could invoke any changes in hiring, too, so it still bodes well, even though we must wait upon HR.

    All good. Back later. XOXOXXX

  11. I SO love white grape juice. It's about the only thing I can pour in a glass at the counter, sip, then drink the entire glass standing there, and pour another. If I didn't watch myself, that one drink could drive me into bankruptcy, lol!

  12. But then, so could Bailey's Irish Cream. . . .

  13. The soup would be pretty salty unless you were able to get reduced sodium. That's available in the supermarkets around here, but don't know about where you live.

Penny's never gotten flavored mashed potatos, but that's probably salty too.

  14. I'm Hooooome!!! All work and shopping and anything else outside the house is DONE.
    Let the wild rumpus start!

Tonight I'm going to get the house in tip top order. Tomorrow I get to cook and bake to my heart's content, get help with the cleanup, hang out with Mah*Sweetie and Root*Center*Son, possibly watch Patrick Stewart's A Christmas Carol, have a festive meal of lasagna and salad, then go to a glorious Christmas Eve Midnight Mass service, about a block away from the Statehouse. Then we'll come home and open one gift before sleeping.

On Christmas Day we'll sleep in, have a delicious brunch, then hang out together, playing Cribbage, watching a movie (maybe Miss Potter, or The Secret Garden, or Elf), and eat all sorts of goodies. Candy Cane Delight (chocolate covered squares of real candy cane) made a mile from our house, and Maple Popcorn, also made nearby, chief among the goodies. But I'll also be making home made Cranberry Orange bread, Soy-crust Quiche, and a big pot of soup.

I'm really looking forward to it! And Mah*Sweetie also has Monday off with me! Ah, bliss!! ♥

  15. Did I mention I'll be playing Christmas music the whole time I'm cleaning? :-)

It snowed all day long and we still have only about an inch and a half of snow. LOL! What I love most about snow is that it adds an extra layer of insulation to the roof! Sweet!

  16. I seem to be among the lucky that salt doesn't seem to affect, one way or t'other. Always thought it was kind of medically nuts though to recommend that *everyone* do low salt, when only about 30% of the population is salt responders. Just lazy? I think *anything* foodwise that's processed is over salted. But for me, it's usually just a price thang. But I *know* post-surgery I'm not going to be feeling like boiling my own potatoes, lol! And the flavored ones ain't bad.

  17. VERY nice looking coats, Alan. I say go for it! It's not all that cold in England, either. . . .

  18. Sucky that it's going to take so long. Keeping them prayers and vibes and light a coming!

  19. In the category of I-am-easily-amused: I've been watching this video on You Tube titled "Teddy the Porcupine with Subtitles". I've watched it multiple times and it still cracks me up every time. The porcupine really does the vocalizations himself, but some very clever soul added subtitles that *could* be what Teddy is saying, and they are SO funny to me.

  20. I believe actually it's just 10% of the population as a whole that has salt-sensitive blood pressure, but 30% of those of us with high blood pressure. Unfortunately, there's no simple way to determine who is and isn't. So I figure that for people like me one chance in three is good enough odds to make the effort worthwhile. OTOH, anyone who has reached their 60s with no sign of increasing blood pressure can probably forget about it. I'm not sure what to advise younger people. Maybe just wait and see.

  21. Prolly a good choice, Bill. I've lived pretty much de-facto low salt my whole life, aided by the fact that I can barely taste it, so seldom add it, lol! But I resent when they charge extra for leaving out something. . . .

  22. Lol! I liked this: "Teddy the Porcupine, subtitled for your convenience. Please note: anthropomorphizing woodland creatures is a misdemeanor in several jurisdictions -- consult local regulations"
