  3. Home! =Whew!= It's treacherous out there. Came out of work to 3-4" of snow on my car, and underneath a hefty layer of ice. The wind is whipping, too. Brrrrr!

  4. Just checked and there's no new puddle news today as yet.
(I'm hoping that means she's getting discharged and riding home.)

  5. **** puddle update from her son ***

I'm at UVA Hospital with mom now. Quiet and boring while we wait for the doctors to make their rounds. She's on a liquid diet. There will be another post after the doctors come.

  10. Well, the doctor did say he didn't want his handiwork messed up. ;-) They probably need to make double sure that all's healing up well, first. I hope puddle gets to use her computer soon, so she doesn't go stir crazy. ;-)

  11. So, Renee, I looked at their schedule online. Looks like you're coming in 1/3 of the way through a quarter. What happened to the person you're replacing? Are you liking the people you're meeting up with? Time to watch Patch Adams again! ;-)

  12. This is a very cool link! You could build a curriculum with some of these materials!

  14. Whoa! I just went outside with the yardstick and we have at least 7" of snow out there. I didn't think that could happen anymore. And it's still snowing and it's expected to snow for another 5 hours. I hope our plow guy remembers how to plow and comes by! It'd be nice if he happened by before Mah*Sweetie has to drive up the driveway. Something tells me, though, that I'm going to have to suit up and go out and clear him a big space with the shovel.

At least no one can blame me for the storm. I even carried my car's snowbrush into work with me, so I'd have it as soon as I got to the car after work! Glad I did, too, especially given the ice!

  19. The person I am replacing quit before teaching a single class. So, I've got to teach what was supposed to be a 10 week human development class in 6 weeks. The intro psych course is also being compressed. My head is kind of spinning.

I haven't met a lot of people, because many are on break. The Dean of the school turns out to be someone who was my supervisor once, several years ago, at the test scoring place. He struck me as a really nice, earnest young man who turned out to be in over his head in what was, by nature, a really tough, stressful job. One day he was passing out little newsletters and making plans for a company picnic--employee appreciation sort of stuff--and then he was just GONE. So it's nice to know that things turned out well for him.

  20. Anyway, this morning there was an e-mail from the Dean, with syllabi and other paperwork attached. At the moment I don't have a computer with Microsoft Word, so I've taken to downloading everything and then uploading it all to Google Docs. Just as I had finished re-uploading everything and was starting to have a look at it, the phone rang, and I recognized the guy's name on the caller ID. He asked, "May I speak to Renee?" and I said, "Hello, Dennis." He was surprised that I knew who he was. So now he thinks I have gnarly powers or something. ;)

But he was calling to make sure I had received what he sent, and also, apparently, to assure me that this is indeed a real school, and this isn't how they normally go about hiring people. And they don't usually post in Craigslist, but he thought that if they posted there maybe someone would see if over the weekend and they could actually have an instructor for the beginning of the year.

So there I am in my, "Oh my gosh, I haven't done this job search thing in forever and I'm so nervous I could puke", while this guy is just thrilled that he was actually able to find someone with a degree in psychology, and experience teaching both of these classes. He just keeps emphasizing that he wants to make sure I know everything up front, and he doesn't want to scare me away. Also impressing upon me how this is a different type of school, and everyone is really nice, and if I like it there, there are always psychology classes to teach.

So, um, is this actually happening? Because it doesn't even vaguely resemble the way my life usually goes.

  21. Wow, Renee! It does sound like a dream come true. Maybe you should practice saying, "Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore." *grin*

  22. Guess what I'm trying to say is, just as this guy and his job posting is a godsend for you, you're a godsend for him. All the cosmic pieces fell into place just right.

  23. what Cat said. Every once in a while the stars or something align jusrt right and everything falls into place.
