  2. So everyone's getting ready to celebrate the new year?

I've always liked the end of year summing up. . . . And this has been a heckuva year to sum up and shelve.

  3. I haven't celebrated the New Year for many, many years. I usually just sleep through it 'cause I really don't like those "Rockin' New Year's Eve"-type shows. I don't make resolutions. And I know that now we'll face multiple real world and online articles on losing weight, getting in shape, getting organized, etc., etc., etc. It's the same thing every year. ( I took Honors in Curmudgeon Class).

  4. Yah, emphasis on "shelve"! I'm looking forward to a new year with no mistakes in it yet. (And I'm not just talking about my own mistakes! LOL!)

But I ended this year well. We were closing up the Library and realised that the Golden Retriever who had been tied to the bike rack was still there. Moreover, she was sitting on wet concrete and shivering all over! So we took her into the vestibule so she could warm up. Then we waited 50 minutes past closing time for her people to return. They didn't! She had no tags at all, and a very worn out collar and leash (had been red but was now gray and torn part way through). But she was so sweet and well behaved and obviously well trained. So someone out there loves her. Maybe she got away from someone who was walking her and someone else tied her to the bike rack? But why would anyone do that without alerting us inside the Library? We found footprints in the soggy snow, leading toward the park. Why would anyone go to the park and not take the dog along? So, in the end, we called the dog officer (who happens to be the same person who does the financial books for the Library and writes our paychecks). She's wonderful, said she has a microchip reader in her car and would see if the dog has a chip. But first she and her older son took the (now warmed up) dog and went for a walk over to the park, following the tracks! Stay tuned for how this all turns out. Hopefully the owner was found and given a little talking to. Can't help but wonder if the owner meant to take a brief walk without the dog (for some reason), slipped and fell and was in need of help? It confounds our sensibilities that a dog so sweet and smart would have been abandoned. None of us believes that's the issue. And it's a really nice town, so our dog officer will do the kind thing. But the really cool part of this story is that the person we called is actually the dog officer for Underhill and the Library is technically in Jericho. We asked her if we should have called the fellow who is dog officer for Jericho. She said that, no, we did the right thing, because it's New Year's Eve and who knows if he'd even answer his phone. ;-) She'll take care of the situation and if the dog needs to be taken into care, she'll call him at that point and work it out. You can rest assured that one way or another the dog is going to have a hearth this evening. wOOf!

  5. As for New Year's Eve celebrating...
If I had my druthers, we'd go out to dinner, take in two or three of the shows of First Night, then watch some fireworks, toast with a glass of wine and kiss.
Mah*Sweetie, however, dislikes going out on New Year's Eve. So over the years we have settled for the toast with a glass of wine and the kiss, since we both agree on that part! :-) I draw the line at watch the stupid "ball drop" on television. I do NOT want to begin every year watching TV! Bleah!
Sure do hope that this new year begins with a new job. Keep those prayers, vibes and good wishes coming our way. We may know by Friday. (Hope, hope!)

  8. Waiting to hear from the video store...as soon as one of their copies of Midnight in Paris comes back they're going to call. I hope we get one for this evening, as it seems just the right night to watch something like that! :-)

  9. I'll be watching more of season two of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine tonight while I quilt.

  10. From one of my fav facebook friends (acquired via mainefem)

Some websites have a good sense of humor about their 404 "Page not found" error messages. In testing to see how many individuals are listed at imdb.com (Internet Movie Database) (there are 4,832,187 people listed), I found they have many different error messages, including:

"Lord! It's a miracle! Webpage up and vanished like a fart in the wind!"

"What we've got here is... failure to communicate."

"I've got a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore."

  11. *** HAPPY DOGGY UPDATE! ***

Turns out one of our good library patrons who lives nearby enough to walk over for her books came over with her dog and picked up the 3 books we had on Hold for her. Then she walked home, looking at one of her books, and forgot to retrieve her dog on the way by! So she was home and reading and eventually asked one of her kids where the dog was. That's when they realised she hadn't had the dog with her when she returned. She apparently got a bit hysterical! They ran over and found our note saying we had tended the dog and whom to call. She was still rather hysterical when she called our friendly dog officer. But as it was unintentional and the woman suffered much upon discovering her mistake, owner and dog were swiftly happily reunited and no fine or other consequence. I love living in a small town, and I love that dear woman who tended the dog, even though it wasn't really even her job, and who was so kind and sensible about it all. ♥

  12. 8-)

How is MaineFem? Is she still bitter and nasty or has she, I hope, found a modicum of peace?

  13. Trying to write but can't concentrate. At the same time, my projects all seem stupid and pointless. Worst of all, I have no imagination. All the novels and stories I read have astonishing twists and fabulous adventures and dazzling, unexpected solutions to problems.I can't produce any of those things.Often I can't even think of what happens next. How do people do it? Is there some exercise I can do to strengthen my imagination?

That's kind of amazing. It's a pity I can't monetize my YouTube channel, but it doesn't meet the criteria. Still, the numbers and the comments are quite a reward. Who'd have thought it was possible to give so much pleasure to so many people in such a simple way?

  15. One funny thing is that while we were hanging out with Rosie, I kept saying "Good Girl" and my coworker (who is a dog owner) kept saying "Good Boy"! When the dog officer came she examined the dog for like 3 seconds and says "She's a little matted but in good health." When I exclaimed (in sheer shock) "I was right?!" the officer said, "There *is* a way to tell, you know." ;-) How we laughed! We hadn't wanted to, erm, imposed ourselves. 8-)

    Doggy's name is Rosie. ♥

  16. Hmmm, maybe pray harder....Mah*Sweetie is losing his voice...and he may have a phone interview with HR on Tuesday! EEP!

  17. I feel the same way about some plots!! For me, it's also the eloquent style of some authors that I find particularly humbling.

Maybe we need to write movies instead. Half the time I say something out loud just before a character says the same thing. When that happens, Mah*Sweetie always says, "You could write this stuff." Then I say, "But, I wouldn't." LOL!

  18. Yup, Son #2 got all 7 seasons on DVD for me. Much appreciated.

  19. I don't make resolutions either. I figure if something's worth doing after New Years, it's worth doing before New Years. But if someone else wants to do resolutions -- good luck to them! All those articles that don't apply to me are easy enough to skip.

I'll be spending a quiet and I hope productive evening in front of my computer. May have a glass of sherry at midnight to celebrate.

I think we have just enough patience to hang in there and wait, if they make the decision this week. 8-)
