Great Ally news, so-so puddle news, Phooey! publisher news.

Renee--course syllabi are for the birds; we got along just fine without them when I was in college. A big pain in the posterior to compose, and they put the teacher into a straightjacket.

No problem getting on base--I parked at the parking permit office and they came out and picked me up. Getting off was the problem--I didn't get away until after 10PM, so won't get to the lab until maybe 1:00PM, which does not thrill the boss at all. Got to the hotel and the water is out for a few hours while the city fixes a broken main. They gave me a couple bottles of water, which is OK for brushing teeth and washing hands, but not enough to take a shower. Well, we'll see if the water is on in the morning. I got some ice and left it to melt for coffee. TTFN

  2. Hi Alan!

Yes, listener, thanks for the link on Puddle's condition. Let us know as soon as you hear anything more about her...... But, of course you'll do that anyway.

Cat ~~ I left a question for you on the previous thread.

  5. Yes, puddle told me her neighbour is going over to feed them. I gather that Stevie has to stay inside and Beau has to stay outside (on his run), so she's feeling a bit sad for both of them. Before long, we hope, puddle herself will be back home, with Thankful there to dote on all of them. Thanks for asking. ♥

  6. IMNSHO, that editor is a ship worth sinking. You called a spade a spade and the spade heard about it and flipped out; which leaves me to believe there was a lot of truth in what you said about her. If she is this way with writers, she must be a terror to work with in the office. No doubt you gave everyone else there a good end to a long week. If she could be so unprofessional as to send you such an angry email, then I believe you have nothing to lose sleep over. If you hear any more repercussions from the incident, you have her own words to share with the pres., who, by the way, did the proper thing, all things considered, lest he become triangled.

That editor over at Slate and Style has good style.

  7. Howdy all. I just sent a teddy bear to puddle's room. It should be arriving around 4:00pm, since that's when they send all the gifts 'round. It's a thing with our family to send a teddy bear when a loved one is in hospital. The hospital also features floral arranging, done right there in the hospital. How cool is that? If anyone wishes to send a gift or card up to puddle, here's the phone number to call: 540-689-1600
If you don't already know her "other" name, contact me and we'll work something out.

  8. My goodness, listener, that's a fresh perspective. I wasn't exactly brooding, but feeling sort of bad about upsetting her after all. What you said gave me a smile. thanks.

  9. Thanks for the contact info. It's quarter past five now, so I'll have to wait till tomorrow. No, tomorrow is Saturday. Will they fulfill requests to order flowers on Saturday?

  10. bTW Puddle's complaint sounds a lot like what's wrong with my mum. I sent the link to Sis. She's been very busy all day but said it looked interesting and she'll look at it when she has a minute.

  11. So, listener, what's Ally going to be for Halloween, or is it a secret?

Cat ~~ To say the editor of my article removed "the whole middle" is an exaggeration. He removed about 15%, at a guess. The article looked a bit strange at that point, with one paragraph not following from the preceding one, but i was otherwise fine. The material that was removed wasn't truly essential to anything that was said later.

  14. Keeping puddle in my thoughts.

Myself, I think I've just got some garden variety virus. Pretty much a given at this time of year.

    Viruses should be forbidden.

Actually, from a biological perspective they are almost too weird to be believed.

  21. Under certain circumstances, you may need to take steps to counteract someone else's wrongdoing, but it's better to do so without anger. That will be more effective, because when your mind is overwhelmed by a disturbing emotion like anger, the action you take may not be appropriate. ~ Dalai Lama

  22. Gosh, that's really roughing it. I'm glad it was easy to get on base and that you subsequently escaped. Maybe send to room service for a bucket of hot water. ;-)

  23. Thanks, listener and Bill. Doing the best I can to take care of myself.

It has been *such* an exhausting week, between my teaching and Son settling in with his first class at the community college. Also taking him to register at Disability Services on campus.

Oh--and switching him out of AP Chemistry and into Honors Chemistry at the online high school he attends. Another one of those balancing acts where I have to do a boatload or research and communication, but also prompt *him* to do more of this stuff than he has in the past.
