I really hate taking allergy meds in the day. Puts me out faster than a sleeping pill. Struggling to stay awake now and wondering "why?". Don't know why I feel I have to stay awake.
Wow! I gave up. Took a "nap" (hah!) and zonked out completely. If Son #2 hadn't needed my help with locating some wires I'd probably still be unconscious. Think I'll just suffer dramatically through the days and take the meds at bedtime from now on. Hate wasting daylight!
I've often wished for things that would either make me stay awake, or make me sleepy. . . . Caffeine/nicotine work minimally for the first, nothing works for the second. . . . My body doesn't seem to be a hot responder, grin. I just grind away at medium.
Alabama is still collecting a tax intended for Confederate veterans. Republicans there are likely to keep it viable. http://news.yahoo.com/alabama-still-collecting-tax-confederate-vets-095645624.html
How interesting and ironic that taxes are always decried by Republicans but taxes usually are levied due to the costs of wars, and it's usually Republicans that champion wars.
In case you haven't heard and, as Mum says, there's always the 10% who doesn't get the word, the Mayor of Las Vegas has named today Engelbert Humperdink Day.
Second: HP7.23E was indeed awesome!
Now, let's see... listener, glad you had a good day yesterday. Sounds like you're really going to town with your quilt!
Several Deaniacs were among my earliest FB friends. Sometimes hear from Jess. In fact, just yesterday I saw some lovely photos of her garden. Also saw a status that she had just made blackberry jam. I also sometimes hear from Reed.
We are just so screwed right now--and not in the good way. It's affecting me physically. What I NEED to be doing is getting myself motivated to do serious job hunting. I honestly can't imagine where I'm going to find the giddy optimism and energy it would take for get into the "selling myself" zone.
I wish I could just find some non-scam, non-hooker way to just DO SOME PAID WORK, and make some actual PROGRESS toward digging our way out of the hole we're in--experience some tangible success--before having to launch into the whole job hunt thing. I just don't have it in me

= Well, you can sure tell it's not Winter around here. =
One thing about this weather that does remind me of Winter, though, is keeping the house closed up most of the day and not wanting to step outside. In fact, I'd rather it were Winter than having this heat and humidity! My heart goes out to every person suffering in this miserable heat wave! ♥
Susan: Ther's non-sedating antihistamines now. At least in prescription strength, I know for sure.
But I know what you mean about naps. There was a time I tried Benadryl during the day with the idea it might help my chronically stuffy nose. It gave me the most pleasant naps I've every had. So much so that it could have become addicting if I hadn't stopped.
You may recall that a year or two ago I mentioned that I really should get new glasses but didn't want to go all the way down to Olympia Fields (maybe 20-30 miles south). And Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind, where I had got the other of the two pairs of low vision glasses I've had, had turned me off because they never answered the phone or returned voice maisl. Well, the first part of the news is that Chicago Lighthouse now has a call center that handles all appointments. They also how have a number of satellite centers, including one at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. (Their main location is an EL and a bus ride rather than EL and walk.) But I had been held back be the fact that they apparently required a referral from my eye specialist.
The seond part of the news is that I took a spill a week ago and lost the front lens of the telescope attachment. So with an urgent need for new glasses I called the Chicago Lighthouse. Turns out you don't really need a referral -- they just assume you'll want one for insurance purposes. So I had my appointment today. Didn't get everything completed, parially because it turns out thay want to try to find out the prescription for the telescope and I didn't remember the name of the low-vision optometrist who prescribed it (but I had the name at home and will call it in tomorrow.) The other reason is that I'll need special sturdy frames they only have at the Lighthouse main clinic. So I'll be getting another appointment to go there. But at least things are in progress.
I don't like the sound of you taking a spill, Bill! So glad it's working out!
I'm in "need new lenses" mode myself. After finally getting my frame repaired to hold me over until my Sept 6th appointment (#20 on the cancellation waiting list), and after being late to work last Thursday because they got my lenses mixed up L to R when they put the glasses back together...yesterday I got a call from the office inviting me to have my appointment next Tuesday morning!!! That means I'll have new glasses in time for the wedding! I think their optician felt badly about messing up my glasses that way. Now I'm twice as pleased that I didn't end up telling me he not only made me drive back over (it's 40 minutes each way) but that he had also made me late for work by a hour and a half. He felt badly enough without that on his head too.
This office is usually TOP NOTCH, so a screw up can be forgiven now and then. But there! They've redeemed themselves anyway! Hurrah!
Howard is always first.

Susan, go ahead: take a nap, and *enjoy* it!

ReplyDeleteLol! Sounds like a good plan.

ReplyDeleteI'm pretty cool now too.
Thanks, Susan! ♥

I'm seeing a lot of smoke in these mirrors.
I am really really tired. Nap is not going to happen, though.
ReplyDeleteJeepers, the zucchini are rioting!! Anyone ever had zucchini waffles?
ReplyDeleteFirst things first.
ReplyDeleteHappy Engelbert Humperdink Day, everybody!

Thanks so much for the encouragement, Puddle. It means a great deal to me. ♥
ReplyDeleteI'm about the same. OTC sleeping stuff does zip
ReplyDeleteAnd while they're beating the war drums, they go out of their way to de-fund programs and services for veterans. 'Nough said.
ReplyDeleteNot hard, Cat! I *really* love the story.

Sooo grateful for my fans! 8-)
True that, Cat.

Man oh man! Things are so grim on most fronts I'm constantly reminded of this:
ReplyDelete"There is no gravity. The world sucks."
Lol!
ReplyDeleteSorry, that was just so *graphic*!

Ouch! Hey, I'm sewing here! You're killin' me! ROFL!!
ReplyDeleteEmphasis on "light headed" (see Susan's post at 23:10).
