Aunt Evelyn's Tiger Lilies

I dislike orange flowers, but treasure these because they came from dear old Great Aunt Evelyn's garden, and she herself gave them to me, long ago when she was still with us. ♥

  1. Lovely photo, listener. I don't like orange flowers either, but a splash of color is nice, especially one with such deep sentimental value.

BTW You Know Who is first - and I don't mean Voldemort!

Chapter Four is sort of betwixt and between...

  5. Hey, how about we brainstorm on idears for Renee on some creative (and sane and legal) ways to make some money?

  6. Is there a good Temp agency near you?

You probably have an excellent driving record...what about signing on as a medical courier? They need folks who have a clean driving record and can pass some background checks. These are the folks who bring in vital items ... from medical supplies to emergency items.

    More soon.

  7. My wedding shoes arrived on Wednesday and they fit perfectly!! This is phenomenal for me! I put them on to show Mah*Sweetie. He took one look and said, "Oh gosh, you'd better not click your heels together or you'll disappear!" :-D

Here's the shoes (only I got them on sale!) ~

  8. I posted a nice long post here with lots of idears for Renee. I saw it post. I read it here. And now it's gone. Grrrr. So, I'll try again to see what I can recall of what I'd posted....

How about tutoring kids who need some preparation before the school year begins? Your church might grant you some space for the sessions.

Are there any churches in your area seeking office help?

Perhaps there's a Summer version of an "after-school" program that needs extra hands.

Or if you'd rather work apart from kids and other people, what about doing data entry for some government agency that needs people who can pass stringent background checks?

I think that's all I'd written before. I hope this one holds!

  9. The moving van is still down the street at my sister's house. Unloading all their furniture, etc., from TX.

I am rooting around huge piles of fabric. The pantry where I donate stuff has given me seven (7!) 33-gallon bags of fabric. I'm busy sorting them according to end purpose, some for totes, some for clothes, some for quilts, some for dolls and toys. Yipes! Just got one of my machines back from the shop last week. Guess I know what I'll be doing for the next little while ... sewing, sewing and more sewing.

  14. I need to take off now. Just wanted to say thanks for brainstorming on my behalf. Also that things are more difficult and complicated than I can really discuss right now, and I definitely wouldn't mind a candle page.

listener: in one of those late posts, you expressed concern about my spill. So here are the details. No particularly big deal.

A biker came up behind me on the sidewalk, fairly fast, and in the process of passing managed to hook her handlebars under the handle of the tote bag I was carrying. We both went down. As far as I know, she wasn't hurt. I initially thought I had escaped damage (didn't notice the loss of the telescope lens until I set out Saturday), but a minute later I noticed blood trickling down my arm. Apparently the edge of one of the sidewalk bricks had made a good cut near my elbow, and it bled fairly coupiously (because of the prophylactic aspirin I take) until I could get home and bandage it. But the cut is healing nicely -- I left the bandage off today. And all other damage was too minor to mention.

Susan: Sounds like you're going to be having fun. Not to mention enhoying having your sister around.

  17. It's funny you should say that. I was thinking about making one for you, but wasn't sure if you'd approve.

  19. I had begun to wonder if you're all right, Puddle. Thanks for checking in. Sending you cooling vibes!!!

  20. Google is amazing; you can do just about anything with it. I just used it to convert furlongs to feet.

    15 furlongs = 9900 feet

  21. Meant to thank you last night!! Coming on soooooooo nicely!! Keep it up! (please)

  22. Hard to say be careful *to you* ~~ but heck! Glad you survived with minimal damage. Still. . . .

    ReplyDelete
  23. Bill Thomasson7/21/2011 08:07:00 PM

Did you actually use Google for the conversion? Or a site you found using Google (and could have found using Goodsearch)?

  24. I balance my checkbook with the calculator. . . .

OK. Other than Google maps I only know Google as a search engine.

  26. Evidently there's a gizmo known as GoogleVoice. And they're in beta on a facebook knockoff.

  27. tried the furlongs, (15 furlongs =) and got: 3.01752 kilometers
So tried again with this: 15 furlongs = ? feet and got it. Use it to convert cooking stuff, too. 3 cups = ? quarts

  28. Same here! It got up to at least 96 here, and Burlington broke its heat record for this date.

"Ick, ack, ook" really says it!!!

  29. Bill, I was astonished. There's a whole raft of tools. Weights and measures conversion, which is what I used, the calculator that Puddle mentioned, international weather, international time, a function that made me think of listener to track earthquakes worldwide... I don't remember what all, a whole page of stuff. I only discovered this because I typed "furlong" into the search engine and pressed the search button. At the top of the results page it gave 1 furlong = so many meters and underneath was this trove of undiscovered functions. It's amazing!

  30. So, wedding stuff update.

Got an email from the MOB today listing all the food they plan to bring to the rehearsal dinner. It's not just the 3 salads and baked beans that their friends and family insist upon making. They plan to bring huge casseroles plus chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs and the rolls. She also listed all the other things that will be needed, right down to the paper products.

We could get insulted and put our foot down and say it's our purview as the groom's parents to offer the rehearsal dinner. But, you know what? We have decided to step back and let them run with it instead. Why? Because what really matters is that our son and their daughter are in love and are about to make a vowed commitment to one another, and start a whole new household family of their own. We want to focus on the love and the commitment. All the rest is fluff.

So we have offered to bring the dessert and a check for half the cost of the food. (We were going to pay for the whole shebang, but aren't so inclined if they're choosing what's what.) The amusing thing is that, if this is accepted by them, we suddenly have a lot less to do and prepare and make happen. Works for me.

  31. MOB = Mother of the Bride

    ReplyDelete
  32. Well, we'd be bringing the homemade cheesecake, the Ben and Jerry's and mega-toppings (both being Bride's request), as well as all the paper products and drinks. Plus half the cost of the rest. So we're not being cheap, and we're not being difficult...which is the point.

  33. Candle lighted, prayers ensuing.

So glad you came home to the blog, Renee. ♥

  34. Oh, that sounds like a tough spill indeed! I'm sooo glad you're okay!

  35. That's a LOT of cloth! WOW!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. It is the point, and bless you both. Still. . . .

  37. Sounds to me like the MOTB is a control freak, if nothing worse. And sounds to me like you guys are being wonderful about the whole thing.

  38. Thanks. We were feeling pretty disappointed until we remembered that the wedding isn't about us. :-)

  39. It still really helps that you "get it." When you aren't being heard it's nice to finally be heard by someone. Earlier today our son asked us how plans for the dinner were coming along and though we said little and said it carefully he offered to speak to his future in-laws and tell them to back off. In a sweet way that offer helped too, but we sure are not going to put him in that position!!!
