Like most Vermonters, I believe we need to dramatically accelerate the withdrawal of our troops from Afghanistan. I explained my views on the war in Afghanistan in an op-ed I wrote for today's Burlington Free Press.
What began as a mission at the core of U.S. interests following the devastating attacks of September 11th has become a costly, open-ended military development project. Osama bin Laden is dead, but Afghanistan has become the longest war in U.S. history and there is no end in sight. President Obama should bring the majority of our troops home and refocus our resources on a limited, counter-terrorism strategy against al Qaeda and other international terrorist groups.
Cloudy today, and humid but a bit cooler, so that's a relief.
Miles to go before I sleep: A greeting card order to fill; MUCH more quilting to do; some house cleaning; 5 Library Journals awaiting my perusal; and a new magazine I want to read, called Ode which says it's "For Intelligent Optimists." The Spring issue features topics on Meditation, plastic and the planet, and "The Bright Side of Your Shadow." Looks good.
FWIW, last night's thunderstorms left 267,000 people in the Chicago area without electric power. Apparently none of the funnel clouds sighted touched ground.
Howard's just gotta be foist!
ReplyDeleteAnd, Lord, I do love peonies. And *that* is a really lovely specimen!
Thanks, puddle!
