Howard is of course number one here, but daughters who call me up and wish me a happy father's day are number one here.
VERY challenging weekend at the rural hospital; the ER just went nuts from Friday afternoon through Sunday afternoon. (My replacement said it calmed down Sunday evening.) I took a nap (after calling my sweetie so she wouldn't worry) before driving home; turned out to be about 1.25 or 1.5 hrs solid deep sleep. I wouldn't have dared try the 1.5 hr drive home without it. But we did a lot of people good, and I received personal thanks from two different ER docs for good service. That's nice. Saturday morning I was having a cup of coffee in the ER break room when one of the daytime ER nurses came in; she greeted me with a "good morning" and when I allowed as how at least is was morning she said she figured it was a bad sign when she saw both a hearse and a helicopter ambulance outside the ER when she drove up. She was right. But it comes with the territory, and the chance to do someone some real good once in a while is a form of pay itself. Not that the incentive pay is unwelcome; it isn't. And now to bed.

Our flood last night came to nothing. Or not much (culverts only running half this morning). Moved the car back. But my, it was *exciting* while it was going on. One might say: TOO exciting.
Thank-you for being there, Alan. It matter so very much. I feel very strongly that docs and other good helpers ought not have long shifts without sleep. It's a recipe for disaster in one form or another. Maybe someday we'll become a saner culture.
Granddaughters from Maine are due very soon! This is an unscheduled visit, so I had to leave the Library staff meeting and come home via the garden center because the last time Eldest*Granddaughter was here she planted "Fairy Flower Seeds" with me. And they never came up. So I needed to get something fairyesque planted fast lest I lose my Grammie aura! LOL! The deed is done: Verbena in pink, white and purple ought to do the trick...along with a blue marble as the fairies' gazing ball.
Speaking of exciting....we had a VERY-nearly spectacular collision yesterday. Mah*Sweetie looked both ways and pulled out just as a little red car came flying over the crest of a hill to our right. Sweetie didn't see it at all, but my shouting stopped him JUST in time. We were both pretty spookered by it, I can tell you that!
Grateful to be intact today. And, like I said, Alan: thanks for being there for the folks who don't have quite so quick reflexes. ♥
Beautifully mild, quiet day today. Just about perfect, 'cept I didn't get a whole lot done. Beau's out guarding the stone terrace from waccoons. Though he missed the one on the porch earlier, who left 'cause there was nothing there for her. Wish she wasn't quite so persistent.
Hot enough last night I got out my short-sleeve pajamas and didn't even have a sheet on. Rained overnight and cool enough this morning a wore a long-sleeve shirt. Now almost 80, humid, and overcast. I suspect more rain is on the way.
Seems to me the Supreme Court must be getting some kind of kickbacks from big business or something. Otherwise it makes no sense to me at all that they disallowed the many women with complaints against Walmart to file as a class action lawsuit for gender bias...saying they didn't have enough in common. Weren't they all women or what?
BTW, as of last evening, Ally's Mommy said "fever still in the 99's." At least it hasn't gone higher, so they're still home. But they wait, they wonder.

ReplyDeletepuddle, it wasn't a regular posting, just a note I got from her on FB.
ReplyDeleteCan hardly ask for more than that, eh?
