Howard Dean is First and Barack Obama's approval rating has gone up.
http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2011/01/obamas-approval-rating-surges-in-recent-polls.php I know the Dad of the fellow who wrote this article! He's a good soul.
Susan... LOL! Hey, we have one of those laundry shoot things at our house. I didn't know I was supposed to shoot my clothing, though. Hey, remember that old kids' game: Shoots and Ladders?
Wouldyoubelieve I have just started work on a hand-sewn quilt...king size? I do all my sewing by hand too. Have for years. I do miss my treadle, but I was never that good at feeding a machine anyway...even such a tame one,
We had granddaughter*in*VT here tonight. Grandad saved the night! She arrived with her parents who very much needed a night out. But she was half asleep and crying that she wanted to go home and why weren't they taking her home? She loves being here, but apparently she had been carrying on at that point for about two hours and her parents were exhausted. We told them we'd be fine and they had better get going (or they'd miss their movie).
So, after reassuring her all they could, they headed out. By the time they were at the end of the driveway Grandad had her LAUGHING! He told her that he was going to make cupcakes, but she said she didn't want to make cupcakes. So he said, "That's okay, I'll get Emma-cat to help me. Cats are good at stirring batter. Cats are great at putting sprinkles onto cupcakes." At that she sat up laughing and said, "Silly! Cats can't do that!" And we were home free from then on.
When I told him that her parents had been trying to change her perspective for two hours he just said, "Amateurs." LOL!!
Naturally, I phoned them immediately and set their worst fears to rest. They had a wonderful evening, skipped the movie and went out to dinner. How relaxed they were when they came back and we had granddaughter all worn out so she'd be asleep by the time they got home.
Pretty gray, but tropical (40ยบ). Maybe I'll get enough melt to get water in a day or two. Oh, wait. I don't *have* a day or two, lol! I need water NOW. Oh, well.
I agree with the posts on the last thread: listener's photos (once expanded to full size) are beautiful and beautifiully composed. Just looking at them I would have assumed they were done by a professional photographer.
Had a firstie today. Lost my bucket. Oh, I know where it is, I just can't get it. My last cast, it caught under the edge of the ice, and I yanked, and away came the handle. The bucket's still in the hole in the ice. The handle's on the shore, and I really have no sane way to get down onto the ice to pick it up. So it'll await a thaw, and join the rest of the flotsam and jetsam in the river. Sorry, Mother.
eek! Sorry about your bucket, puddle. Do you have another?
I just looked at the coupons on my fridge and they expire tomorrow. Ordinarily I'd just go "oh well", but a couple of them are for free stuff, like a pound of butter and such. Not gonna pass that up.
I had a new recipe I was going to try tonight, but decided there's no point. My brother eats pizza and only eats once a day. (I know, I know, I've tried to tell him.) Any Son #2's schedule is currently so upside-down that he's eating dinner in the wee hours of the morning. Can't see much point to cooking something only I will be eating.
Gosh! Thanks for the props! Good timing too, as I've been asked to do a display of my paintings and photography sometime this summer at the Library. I feel a little intimidated at the prospect, but am also looking forward to it.
What's the verdict, puddle? Do you have a redundant bucket?
Susan! I started a king-sized quilt today! I'm doing it all by hand and have 8 months. I think I must be crazy. LOL! But I LOVE it, and am having a blast. Boom boom aint it great...
Ya. Minny buckets. One of my neighbors works for a newspaper print shop, and brings me ink buckets. Otherwise they get tossed. The ink is water soluble, and you'd never know. May be time to ask for a couple more, though. Just in case. Wouldn't want a bucket barren situation, eh?
Well...given the calibre of the art we get to display, it's hard to say. I feel good about my photographs, less confident of my oil paintings. They're not crap, but I know I could do better with more time and practice.
I *never* use patterns!!! I do more of a folk art design. This one will consist of four almost square panels, each representing a different season, but the four together make one large picture of Vermont as seen looking west from Stowe to Burlington and across Lake Champlain to the Adirondacks of NY. There will be a full moon, a sailboat, a hot air balloon, fireworks, a wedding tent and more...each item depicting something about their history together.
Once those four panels are done, I have options. I can quilt them and applique them onto a king-size comforter cover. Or, I can get some cloth to use between and around them, and possibly even "frame" each panel. Or I can given them the four panels as wall hangings and the comforter cover separately.
You see, originally I bought a beautiful madras plaid comforter cover and two matching shams. I used that as my base and bought about 40 different pieces of cotton cloth for the quilt, such that ALL of them look good with this particular madras plaid. But now I'm worried it could end up too heavy. So I'm giving some thought once again to going with a traditional quilt top.
At worst, I'll get the four panels done then show them to the happy couple and see how they'd prefer to use them. But hopefully as I get into it, I'll see what's needed. If I got VERY brave, I could cut four sections out of the top of the comforter cover and insert the four quilted panels. What I like about a comforter cover approach is that it can be used in the Summer sans inner comforter, and used in Winter with a warm comforter buttoned into it.

You're pretty brave, listener! It won't be easy to finish such a big one in 8 months. What pattern are you using? Squares, stars, triangles?
ReplyDeleteNo need to feel intimidated. You're dang good.
ReplyDeleteDidn't realize it was getting so late. Still have a couple of things to finish before I dive under the wing.

You definitely don't want to be without a bucket. Sooo glad you have multiples!
