We will be apartment shopping with Naomi in a couple of weeks, but she found a reasonably good looking apartment house (up in the hills a bit, in Belmont) in her price range, close to a shopping center with supermarket, a short bus ride from work, and near a CalTrain station. (CalTrain is a commuter line that runs south from San Francisco and connects with Amtrak.) Lookin' good!
I am about to become totally internet dependent. . . . Just packed my Physician's Desk Reference and two editions (14th and 17th) of the Merck Manual, to be sent off to charity.
It sure does, Alan! I did the math and it's been nearly 35 years!!
That's really nice to think of Naomi coming into SUCH a nice situation! More than just that, she has supportive family behind her. Life doesn't get any more wonderful than that. So happy for you all! ♥
I pulled an all-nighter last night. Haven't done that it many years. But future-DIL had a noon deadline today on her master's degree paperwork so I stayed up proof-reading until the sun came up!

I slept 4 hours, got up to take care of some essentials (sent a wedding gift to a nephew and a donation to Granddaughter#1's "TRIKE-a-thon", etc.) then went back to bed for 2 1/2 hours. So by 2pm I was back on track. Spent hours working in the gardens, so I think I'll be ready to sleep tonight. I could really use a full 8 hours again.

Naomi was somewhat taken aback by the hiring contract she was required to sign--clearly written by an attorney, and forcefully spelling out employment at will and protection of intellectual property rights (those of the company and competitors both). I don't blame her--I have never seen anything like it, but there was nothing out of order or unreasonable. One of her teachers looked concerned at places while reading it, but had the same take in the end. He made the observation that security in the computer game industry is stronger than at the CIA. Small price to pay for avoiding the character-building experience of starving in a garrett, methinks!
Oncologist visit today, all is well, he agrees that exercise and weight loss would be a good idea, not only in general but to reduce the chances of recurrence [recrudescence?]. Since my medical adventure began I have packed on about 20 pounds and lost muscle strength/tone due to lack of exercise. Time to undo all that.
Howard's da MOST foist!!
ReplyDeleteBoy, that must feel good, listener!

Kinda gray, kinda warm ~~ not a whole lot happening, a bit of wind kickin' up every once in a while. More T-storms tomorrow. In a word: spring.
ReplyDeleteOne thing the phone outage did was push me into clean up mode. BIG sorting/hauling/burning. Feeling lighter already, lol!
