This is where Pumpkin used to wait when I would take Archer on a walk. I'd feel bad leaving her behind, but also, a bulldog standing in the windowsill like a cat is pretty stinking cute!

European Peacock Butterfly!

This butterfly is not on the list of Vermont butterflies, yet it showed up in our pollinator garden on Friday! It is native to Europe and Asia and a few sightings are recorded near Montreal. I reported it to iNaturalist, and there were no other sightings showing in the States. Then, I learned that the first sighting ever in Vermont was on October 5th, 2022 in Calais, Vermont. There have been some sightings in the Montreal area since 1997. The species (Aglais io) was confirmed by two different online sites, so I'm pretty sure it's accurate. Such a great surprise!

Rescue coleus thriving

I've gone back and forth on whether this is worth posting. Mainly, our  front deck has seen better days and I'm not sure it's something that I want to draw attention to. But it's kind of a sweet little story, and we need more of those right now.  ~ Renee

We were at the grocery store--one of those bigger stores that seems to sell everything.  When we looked inside our cart,  we noticed that a stem and some leaves had broken off of a coleus plant.  My husband took the sprig home and put it in some water.  Once it rooted up he put it in a pot on our front deck.

I smile every time I see it.  It was destined to be trash, but here it is thriving. :)

As of September 2, Apple Maps has also made the change.

 
Mapquest has declared "We're not changing it", leading to Mapquest skyrocketing in popularity in app stores.
