New York Times sues Pentagon over Trump team’s limits on press reporting Guardian: The New York Times said on Thursday it is suing the US defense department and the defense secretary, Pete Hegseth, after the Trump administration imposed restrictions for the press on access privileges and source-based reporting at the Pentagon.
Journalists assigned to cover the Pentagon were asked in October to agree to new rules telling them not to solicit information that had not been approved by Hegseth. The extra restrictions were also designed to limit their movements around the military command headquarters in Arlington, Virginia, just across the Potomac River from Washington DC. As a result, many leading outlets turned in their credentials in protest.
Charlie Stadtlander, a spokesperson for the New York Times, said in a statement that the decision “is an attempt to exert control over reporting the government dislikes” and the Times “intends to vigorously defend against the violation of these rights." -- nordy
W A Thomasson12/04/2025 12:32:00 AM People never mention that one reason Trump falls asleep in meetings might be boredom. He doesn't care about anybody's opinion but his own.
We have made it through the first half year. Sigh. I had my first dream of Shiloh this morning. It had all been a mistake, only his belongings had crashed. And he was home here again, bright and grinning. So vivid. But alas, only a dream.
Sometimes my mother is in my dreams and perfectly normal. Often she's merely a presence in the background, part of the fabric of the dream world, so to speak. Sometimes she has a more prominent roll. And, sometimes, she and I are having a flaming row. *shrug* The mind is a most peculiar thing.
Bright sunlight earlier. High of 20F is near record low for the date. Predicted overnight low of 7F will also be near record. For those elsewhere who find the combination of bright sun and frigid temps unusual, it is common for Chicago. It mans we are completely in thd Artic air mass. Clouds are south of us.
But frigid temps aren't the main reason I'm skipping tonight's writers group meeting. Peeling skin makes my left heel sore and I don't want to walk the block and a helf from Jimmy Johns to the library after picking up supper. I'll just stay cozy inside and have my usual fruit and nuts.
Yes, stay snug in this cold. One can slip and fall and be stuck without help too long in such temps. Up here it's -2ºF tonight. Moon's out. Sunshine and cold go together because clouds hold the heat in.

So true!

I sometimes dream of Penny and my mother. But the fact they are no longer alive never figures in the dream.

Wise choice.
DeleteSunny and cold, even *VERY* cold sounds perfectly ordinary and reasonable to me.
