I think it was over a hundred degrees yesterday, and the weatherperson says we are in for another six days of that. Gardening needs to be done by early afternoon at the latest. ----Alan
"An uptick in the mosquito-based illness has led to event cancellations and a health department warning to stay inside at night in northwestern Vermont."
Not my town, but definitely the town our boat resides in.
I can thoroughly recommend lemon eucalyptus mosquito repellent (also repels ticks). Comes in various brands, including house brands, at various prices. Much safer than DEET sprays, and lasts almost as long. [Note: mosquitos will go right past my sweetie to seek me out] ----Alan
I have pre-experimented for you, and lemon eucalyptus (a species of eucalyptus, not lemon plus eucalyptus) repellent is well investigated. As memory serves me, its effect lasts for about 6 hours, compared to 8 for DEET. Or something like that. ----Alan (Who when mosquitos fly past his sweetie to bedevil him, thinks of the story that Italian peasants used to keep a pig near them in the house because mosquitos would preferentially seek out the pig--- because it produces more carbon dioxide than humans.)
Well, after several days of struggle and frustration, I gave in and selected a new Blogger theme for my blog. And, because it's a new fangled theme - unlike my old theme that was indeed ancient as such things go - it is fully customizable. Not everything is sorted out as to which sidebar it'll all end up on, but overall the blog is looking good. Please come take a gander at Life, the Universe and Everything [click] and tell me what you think. One thing I did notice right away is that there is not enough clearance between the sidebars and the middle, main space. But, you know what? We'll live with it!

I'm not willing to experiment with other products until after this threat has passed. But I do like the idear of lemon euchalyptus over DEET!
