  4. Multiple sources are reporting that Evan Gershkovich and Paul Whelan are among those being released from Russia as part of a massive prisoner swap with the U.S.

Gershkovich, a U.S. journalist working for The Wall Street Journal, and Whelan have both been accused of espionage by Russian authorities and sentenced to 16 years in prison. --nordy

  5. Bloomberg: — Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro met with Kamala Harris’ representatives while some labor groups expressed opposition to Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly, as the Democratic candidate’s search for a running mate nears its end.

Shapiro’s meeting Wednesday is part of Harris’ selection process and took place without the vice president, said people familiar with the matter, speaking on condition of anonymity. It’s unclear whether the session was held virtually, or who else has held discussions with the vice president’s team. Shapiro, Kelly and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz are among the top contenders for the job. --nordy

    1. Meanwhile, Common Dreams is reporting that progressives are speaking out loud and clear against Josh Shapiro for VP.
It’s no wonder that progressives seem to be lining up in the VP contest behind Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, who like Shapiro has some policy wins on cherished liberal issues like expanding free school lunches but isn’t lugging around political baggage like the Pennsylvania governor. --nordy

  8. Two from Charlie Sykes (evidently a pretty far-right guy)

“Surely, Donald Trump has had worse days than yesterday. But off-hand, I can’t think of many performances ghastlier than Wednesday’s episode of Fat Elvis Does Birtherism.”

“For the moment, let’s leave aside the horse-race analysis, and the rank punditry about Trump’s three-dimensional chess strategy. What we saw yesterday was a pathetic old racist trying to replay his greatest hits.”

“Trump launched his presidential bid by pushing the Obama Birtherism hoax; and he thinks that playing the race cards will work again. Even his post-debacle campaign statement made it clear that he wants to relitigate some of his most incendiary comments from 2015. But back then, his comments were shocking; now they just feel…. weird. Even his most reliable turd-polishers recognized that he had crapped the bed.”
    ================================

It’s important to give credit where it is due. ABC’s Rachel Scott did what many interviewers have failed to do: she went right after Trump and didn’t blink when he hit back. Here’s her awesome opening question:

“A lot of people did not think it was appropriate for you to be here today,” Scott said. “You have pushed false claims about some of your rivals, from Nikki Haley to former President Barack Obama, saying that they were not born in the United States, which is not true.
You have told four congresswomen of color who were American citizens to go back to where they came from.
You have used words like animal and rabid to describe Black district attorneys.
You’ve attacked Black journalists, calling them a ‘loser,’ saying the questions they ask are ‘stupid and racist.’
You have had dinner with a white supremacist at your Mar-a-Lago resort.
My question, sir, now that you are asking Black supporters to vote for you: Why should Black voters trust you after you have used language like that?”

    Trump was displeased, whining…

“I don’t think I’ve ever been asked a question in such a horrible manner, first question,” Trump sniped. “I think it’s disgraceful that I came here in good spirit; I love the Black population of this country; I’ve done so much for the Black population of this country … I have been the best president for the Black population since Abraham Lincoln.”

    It didn’t get better.

It's as much your blog as mine.
Just be sure you know how to undo it if anything goes amiss, because I'd have no clue.
