    1. The Lincoln Project had an ad on what would happen in a Trump administration that was terrifying. Unfortunately I can't find it now. --nordy

  2. And the other day there was "Vance VP" - Marsh Family parody adaptation of "Dancing Queen" by ABBA [Click]

I do not recall any such outburst in my lifetime of people making fun of a presidential candidate; it is reminiscent of occasional campaigns in the 19th and perhaps early 20th Centuries--- things we read about in history books. I think it portends doom for the Trump campaign; if ever there were someone who couldn't take a joke, it's him.

    1. I look forward to Trump's rally in Atlanta, at the same auditorium Harris just filled to the rafters. I sincerely hope for a lot of empty seats!

    2. I think it was Raphael Warnock who said yesterday that Trump lost Georgia by 11,000 votes, and the population of Atlanta is increasing by that many people every month. Seems hard to believe, but that is what I recall.

    1. Another reason to select Mark Kelly. I wonder if the governor of AZ gets to appoint a successor in the Senate.

    2. Arizona replacement law [Click] For a vacancy in the office of United States senator, the governor shall appoint a person to fill the vacancy. That appointee shall be of the same political party as the person vacating the office and, except as provided in subsection D of this section, shall serve until the person elected at the next general election is qualified and assumes office. If the person vacating the office changed political party affiliation after taking office, the person who is appointed to fill the vacancy shall be of the same political party that the vacating officeholder was when the vacating officeholder was elected or appointed to that office. Sounds low-risk.

    3. When I heard Mark Kelly today say that he views DT as a scared old man and "a desperate convicted felon who's lashing out", I thought: It must be time to watch the movie HOOK again! 🤣

  5. Susan Screed (because I can never get my comments to post here). I know Mark Kelly has many fine qualifications, but…. I’m sorry, because I’m much older than he is, but he just looks OLD. Every time I see him I find myself thinking a out how old he looks. I wish Americans hadn’t been dumbed so far down over the last forty years of attacks on our public education because I *really* just love the shining quick brilliance of Mayor Pete. But every time he’s mentioned all the four “buttboy” jokes come out. However, this Walz guy looks VERY promising to me. He speaks the truth and his opinion in a clear and forthright manner with no evasions or code words. He’s about the same age as Kamala and I think he’d be great on the campaign trail.

    3. In every live online pole Brian Tyler Cohen has done over the past few days, Pete comes in first, by a lot. Walls(sp?) and Kelly also do well. If I recall correctly, the founder of March for Our Lives said he and his organization like Walls.

    4. Susan, I was pleasantly surprised by Walz's easy, honest candor. I'd be fine with him as a pick. I also like Kelly.

  7. David A. Grahm in the Atlantic on Trump's appearance before Black journalists:
Onstage at the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) convention today, Donald Trump complained bitterly that technical difficulties had delayed his appearance, but he had no trouble squeezing plenty of inflammatory comments into a shortened interview.

The former president refused to condemn the violent rioters on January 6, 2021. He gave only faint support for J. D. Vance’s preparedness to serve as president. He wouldn’t refute allies’ claim that his presumptive presidential opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, is a “DEI candidate.” And in the most eye-popping moment, he questioned whether Harris is really Black.

Remarks that Yamiche Alcindor writes had the audience "gasping." --nordy

    1. Well, she is only half black, as is Obama. But I should have thought that to someone like von Schitzenpants one drop of negro blood made you negro through and through. Isn't that the way the plantation owners used to reckon it?

    2. Not just the plantation owners, but a number of US states as well, as memory serves me.

  9. Time was I could work effectively with HTML. Now, I can't even figure out how to get the edit pencil to appear on my front page blog posts, much less how to make the blog display with a left and a right sidebar and to fill the entire screen when the window is maximized like HEP. It's most discouraging.

  13. For my sins, I watched the whole debacle via Brian Tyler Cohen's live stream. He got so incensed at a few of Trumps lies that he broke in to correct them. It was, shall we say, not a successful campaign event.

  14. Almost didn't mention: I leave for Scotland tomorrow. Jason, my much younger friend, and I will do tourist stuff in and around Edinburgh for three days, then on to Glasgow for the World Science Fiction. Following week will be Rotterdam for the European Science Fiction Convention. Then home on the 205h. Long trip. I'll have internet but may be too busy to do much here.
