  2. Via politicalwire.com:
“Vice President Kamala Harris raised more than $50 million in less than 24 hours after entering the 2024 race for president, as Democrats welcomed her candidacy with one of the greatest gushers of cash of all time,” the New York Times reports.

  3. I heard Howard Dean on NPR this morning. He said the process that led to Biden's stepping down was "unfair," but added that "Biden did the right thing." --nordy

    1. I'm grateful that Howard acknowledged that it wasn't fair.

      And he would know.

  4. 11AM and we are just back from our constitutional which we cut short because it seemed hotter than the past couple of days. Predicted high 107F, and the successive days will be hotter yet; tomorrow 108, Wed. 110.

  6. I was just reading Kamala Harris's Wikipedia entry. I note with interest that she is a graduate of the Hastings School of Law. With only a single exception, all the Hastings graduates I have encountered professionally have been outstanding attorneys. I remember when the University of California acquired increased control of Hastings, which was an old law school on the verge of collapse. UC staffed it with outstanding retired jurists, all part time. I remember an alleged DUI marijuana case up in South Lake Tahoe, in which the defense attorney was a Hastings graduate and had never had such a case. He prepared for the case to an extraordinary degree, so that he would be fully prepared for any such subsequent cases. The prosecutor, who had thought he had a slam-dunk case, gave up during jury selection. I strongly suspect that the one Hastings graduate I encountered who was unimpressive had strong Republican family connections; one substandard student is bound to slip through from time to time. Graduates of Boalt Hall (UC Berkeley Law), as I understand, generally go into corporate law, whereas Hastings graduates often enter criminal practice-- which explains my familiarity with the latter.

  7. I'm a genius, she said modestly. I fiddled and faddled a bit and fitted the Youtube viewport into the sidebar of my blog.

And why did you perform this feat of HTML magic, o Mistress of Web Wonders, I hear you ask.

This particular video is the V.P.'s address at campaign headquarters immediately after the President's announcement. I missed it yesterday. It's quite a speech. If I were Trump, I'd bee shaking in my boots. Then again, the thought of being Trump makes me feel quite ill!

Anyway, I had the brilliant idea of putting the speech on my blog, but I wanted it to stay put. And that meant placing it in the sidebar, and *that* meant straining my brain with a little arithmetic to work out the sizing. And, voila!

    2. Just watched the complete video via Arty Blog. Definitely stem-winder of a speech. The playback was irregular, which could indicate that a huge number of people were watching it. I don't think I will lose sleep waiting for any Democratic (or other) partisans to knock on our door to campaign, though. It seems so strange to read about such goings-on elsewhere. In recent years the majority (such as it is) of the campaign flyers have arrived in our mailbox AFTER I have voted.
