  3. Alan, Listener must have misread the headline last thread on the child abuse victims. On first seein it, I had to go back and reread it myself to make sure I'd gotten it right. We're so used to expecting horrors in the news, especially down South, that if she was skimming she might have misunderstood. I must say it is a welcome surprise to see a court anywhere, especially in Dixie, doing the right thing by sexual abuse victims.

Ah. I mixed up which court I was displeased with. I meant Oklahoma!

    1. Fat finger syndrome: "inanimously" should read "unanimously." But you had figured that out.

    2. Nice to know they are capable of ruling unanimously on *something*, even if it is as straightforward as standing.

    3. The best part of this unanimous decision is the way the court found that right-wing plaintiffs like the Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine have no standing despite these groups' tortured arguments that they did. I don't know what the decision will do about the judge-shopping that defines these extremist groups, though. --nordy

  5. Thirsty in Minneapolis
June 13, 2024 By Taegan Goddard

Minnesota U.S. Senate candidate Royce White (R) tweeted out a map purporting to show that “crime in Minneapolis” is spinning “out of control.”

However, the map actually showed drinking fountains in the city.

    1. Er, yes. Well, as I was saying, the proliferation of drinking fountains is out of control in our fair city. If I am elected, I pledge to slash the number of these dangerous and immoral objects!

    5. Yes, my friends, I say public water fountains are sinks of depravity, points in our urban landscape where young people of both sexes mingle freely! They shoot the breeze! They hold hands! And before you know it they're stepping out on a Saturday night, going to the **moving pictures**!

Friends, we must stamp out this pernicious influence on our innocent girls and boys before it's too late. If you elect me, Cat R. Waller to the Minneapolis city counsul, I guarantee each and every citizen as many non-bio-degradable plastic bottles of water as our landfill can hold.

Thank you for your time, and thank you for your votes!
God bless the great state of, er, Wisconsin!

    5. With the Russian economy teetering on the edge of the economic abyss, a gentle assist is enough. I anticipate social, governmental, and economic problems the likes of which Russia has not seen since their civil war about a hundred years ago. I regret the effect it will have on ordinary people. Disintegration of the Federation may well destroy what remains of the Tsarist empire.

    1. We saw this fella on Indian TV a while back, right? Interesting, but I dispute one of his calls. President Biden isn't on a par with FDR or JFK? I disagree. He does have charisma - he has heart and sincerity and a boundless belief in America. He's a good, honest man you know you can trust. I don't see him as vanilla (Vanilla gets a bad rap anyway.), he's got a great sense of humor, a very nice personality. He cares about people and he cares about the country. Is he perfect? No. Do I agree with everything he says and does? No. Like Jeff Duncan, though, I'd rather vote for someone I disagree with that I know is a decent man. The professor made him sound like a nonentity, when he isn't that at all.

    2. Right, but even that is a not inconsiderable sum. It should help the Ukrainian war effort. It is right and proper that Russia pay in whatever small a way.
