Yep; the good ship Whackadoodle just might be in for some rough weather. I look forward to Allen J. Lichtman's official 2024 prediction [Click] ----Alan
Last night, before coming to bed, I watched a video about a fellow in Australia making and sailing an ocean-going dugout canoe (with outriggers). He cheated a bit by using steel adz and axe, as well as a chain saw in places and a canvas sail, but otherwise as the native boatbuilders did. I was surprised by how fast it sailed. I am reminded of a video about a recreated 16th-century caravel (with a small inboard engine hidden away to facilitate entering and leaving port). It seems amazing that people would set off on a voyage from Iberia to the Spice Islands and (hopefully) back in such a tiny ship, but the crew was small. In elementary school our teacher chalked an outline of the Mayflower on the playground asphalt and had the class squeeze into it. ----Alan
I was noticing the current gasoline prices the other day. Doing a little quick mental calculation, I figured that back in the late 1960's, when I was paying 27.7 cents per gallon, an hour's pay at the official minimum wage would buy about five gallons of gas. Roughly the same nowadays, and the typical modern car will go about three times as far on that five gallons of gas as the typical late-1960's car. Now, as then, I have no sympathy for people who choose to drive gas guzzlers. Hard-hearted, I guess. ----Alan
Current petrol price in UK = about 150 pence per liter, = 548 pence per US gallon, = $6.98/US gallon, so say seven dollars per US gallon. The adult minimum wage in the UK is £11.44 per hour = $14.57. ——Alan
I'm not surprised. Trump hasn't looked well for some time. For the first time, someone is holding him responsible for his actions. What happens when a psycopath has a panic attack? --nordy
Yeahhh, thanks for coming by and saying so. We are all missing her tremendously. Such a person and such a persoality. On my phone, I have a voicemail message she sent me in 2022. I hope I get to keep it.
Sheesh! He needs to work on his sale's pitch. Vote for me if you want to win? Of course, you could go on getting your three percent, or you could join with us and win? Real smooth, Donald. Why do I get the impression you couldn't sell water to fish?
HCR tonight is worth a read...but stay with it through the last sentence!

That's an interesting statistic you've developed, Alan.
DeleteI haven't checked it for a long time, but I remember that petrol in the UK used to cost $7 per gallon.

"Crooked Joe Biden" says Trump to Libertarians. Projection by the crookedest politician in American history. --nordy
ReplyDeleteProjection is the Republican way. That and naming things the opposite of what they actually mean...like "Clear Skies Initiative."
