The days are just packed! Christmas Eve we went to Root*Center*Son's house. Then after livestreaming the service at which two of our younger grands were in the Christmas Pageant as shepherd and lamb, we headed home and worked on our upstairs hallway flooring until 2:00am Christmas morning. Christmas Day, Root*Center*Son came here and we opened the rest of the gifts, enjoyed Christmas dinner and a movie together ("Michael"). THEN we learned that 7 year old Grandson is not coming Thursday to Saturday, but Tuesday to Friday!!! So tonight we worked more on the hallway flooring which we MUST finish before he arrives at 5:00pm...as well as clean house, mail at least one package, get groceries and set up a guest bedroom for him. I had to completely move a large closet worth of stuff and fold a ton of laundry. But it's time to find my pillow and hopefully sleep better tonight than I did last night (5 hours), especially given that Grandson wakes 3-4 hours earlier than we normally do. LOL! All that said...we are *delighted* he's coming AND that we'll get to see ELDEST*GRAND a little as well!!!
Disappointing but nto particularly surprising: My short story didn't make the cut for the anthology to which it was submitted. There were 90 submissions for only 8 slots. Now I have to think about whether to try to submit it somewhere else or go directly to self-publishing.
I am reminded of Jules Verne's first novel, which was rejected and which he locked in a safe. As memory serves me the safe was about to be discarded by his great-grandson, who decided to first have it opened and thereby rediscovered the novel [Paris in the Twentieth Century], subsequently published. It is as remarkable for what he foresaw as for what he did not. ----Alan
listener: Yes, I've been going by W. A. for more than a year and a half now. Partially because that's my byline but mostly because I now considered myself nongendered and prefer a nongendered name. But as I explained at the end of the last thread, I've only now figured out how to change how I post on blogger.
Grandson is on the premises! What a fine young fellow he is. Two weeks shy of age 8 and, even though he was carrying as much gear into the house as I was, he held the door for me to go through first. Into the bargain, he's a truly sweet person, reads aloud so well (all but thrtee long words in the whole 10 chapter book), and sometimes reads so swiftly, with his mind running faster than his eyes, he finds a way to say the same thing in fewer words to speed the story along. He is also tickled to have just been given jersey #10 on his soccer team. Apparently the player who has jersey 10 is the lead, and it's twice as exciting for him because his soccer hero is Lionel Messi, who wears #10. I'm learning all sorts of things I've never had to think about! 🤣

DeleteAt least you have more options, Bill.
I note a change in your moniker.

That is a very interesting way of reading--it really gives insight into the workings of his mind.
