17 min ago All vehicles being screened at Buffalo airport in response to the Rainbow Bridge incident, official says From CNN’s Sabrina Souza
Every car coming into the Buffalo International Airport is being screened with bomb-detecting dogs amid heightened security in response to the incident at the Rainbow Bridge, a transportation official told CNN.
Police patrols will be increased and travelers at the airport will undergo additional screenings, according to Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority spokesperson Kelly Khatib.
The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA) is in contact with The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and the Department of Homeland Security, Khatib added, and “due to these events we are exercising extreme caution, but the airport is operational.”
32 min ago All local government offices in immediate area of explosion closed and evacuated, NY official says From CNN's Celina Tebor
All local government offices in the immediate area of the explosion at the US-Canada border have been closed and evacuated, New York State Assembly Member Michael Novakhov wrote on Facebook.
His office has been briefed on the explosion, Novakhov said.
I saw the security camera video of the car airborne for a considerable distance. There is a report that on the way to takeoff, it swerved around another vehicle. I can't hope but wonder if the driver confused the brake pedal with the accelerator and panicked. There shouldn't be any difficulty for the investigators getting legal access to the vehicle's performance recording equipment. ---Alan
I came home from school, skipping my afternoon classes due to early pregnancy exhaustion, I was three weeks pregnant, I took a nap. My hubby called later that afternoon to tell me the President was dead. The phone lines had been out due to overuse. He called as soon as he got a dial tone. We did nothing for days, just sat glued to the TV. Saw Jack Ruby kill Lee Harvey Oswald. I have no memory of Thanksgiving that year.
We were having a test in 12th-grade English class. One of the math teachers (Mr. Newton) stepped into the classroom door and signaled to our English teacher to step out into the hallway. When she came back she looked distressed (as Mr. Newton had). After the exam was over, she told us that the President had been shot in Dallas; just how badly he had been injured was not yet known. I made tape recordings of the radio news reports and collected newspapers for several days after that, but over the years those disappeared. Neither do I have any recollection of Thanksgiving that year. That is one of the things that cause people of our generation to remember just where they were and what they were doing when they heard the news. ----Alan
We'd been using the rhythm method as birth control, sure enough, we had sex on Halloween, the next morning, temp played shooting star. I threw up for the first time five days later. Threw up the last time three weeks before he was born. What I learned: You never, ever, enter a building unknown to you without checking the location and travel time to the bathrooms. Not restaurants, theaters, classrooms, churches, nothing. Ever. Teacher, who'd followed me out, moved me to his afternoon History of Modern Grammar Class without even asking me.
