Temperatures in the 90's are pleasant to OK here; in the hundreds uncomfortable and calls for some caution; 110-plus is pretty damned hot, and makes air conditioning a lot more than just a comfort issue. ----Alan
Many of the larger old houses in town have what were sleeping porches on the north side and substantial shade trees. With the advent of air conditioning many of those sleeping porches were enclosed. I remember my grandparents' house in San Jose had a sleeping porch, which had been made into my uncle's room. I slept there many times, and it was nice waking up to the chirping of the birds. ---Alan
My house had a sleeping porch when I was young, but then it was enclosed to create the third bedroom needed for a three-generation family. The sleeping porch was comfortable in summer but too cold in winter.
