  1. Judge finally issues gag order/protective order, restricting Donald Trump's speech and posts [Click] “Judge Juan Merchan, the judge presiding over Donald Trump's criminal trial in New York, just issued an order restricting Donald Trump's speech and social media posts concerning the evidence against him in his prosecution for falsifying business records to gain unfair advantage in the 2016 election. Here is a breakdown of the three categories of restrictions the Judge has imposed on Trump.” Breathtaking.

    1. Well, that helps!

I'm still waiting for someone to put him under oath.

    2. Well, because straight up lying is not a crime, subjecting a person to an oath, makes the lie a crime. However, the person is free to rely on a faulty memory.
Perjury is very difficult to prove. It is often the charge when tax returns are involved, but the government still has to prove the falsification was intentional.
The U.S. legal system likes evidence (documents), but when it gets into court, it relies mostly on testimony. Which is why I think Michael Cohen set Trump up by recording conversations and getting him to write checks to reimburse the hush money.
Trump seems to have made a habit of hiring persons with ethnic roots (like the Calimaris) and then disposing of them when they became inconvenient. Michael Cohen seems to have taken offense at that. Ergo his book, "Revenge."

  2. Another Aurora Borealis event with kp7 is possible! Check this website to see the current conditions and consider spending some time outdoors in the dark of night (Between 11pm and 4am is probably best). But ANY time you see a dancing aurora is the right time...!

    Current Aurora INFO!

    1. To judge from the maps, we are much too far south to see it. I remember my folks talking of seeing an aurora when I was very young, hundreds of miles north of here. I suspect those kpX numbers are probabl on a logarithmic scale. Good luck to you all!

    1. NYT: “He was charged with seven counts of wire fraud, three counts of money laundering, one count of theft of public funds, and two counts of making materially false statements to the House of Representatives.”

    2. Interesting that they took away his passport and he had to post $500,000 bail. Clearly serious charges.
The vast majority of his constituents want him gone. The Dems and even many Repubs want him out. But the Republican House can't kick him out even if they want to, because the word is that he's most likely to be replaced by a Democrat.

  5. Looks like another beautiful day here; the river has fallen a little more, which probably means the Bureau of Reclamation figures there is enough reservoir capacity upstream to deal with snowmelt. That would, I think, mean that water from the Kings River (which naturally feeds into the Lake Tulare basin) can be diverted into the lower San Joaquin River (well downstream of us).

  6. As we were just now returning from shopping, we were about one car length or a bit more from the railway tracks when the gates began to come down. I gunned it and we got through all right, but that was a little more exciting than I should have preferred.

P.S.: That was the track that carries the Amtrac trains.

    3. The train was not in sight, I was completely past the limit line, the car ahead was past the [green] traffic signal on the other side, so it was clear sailing; bit of a surprise, though. I have been involved in quite a few cases of people ignoring train crossing warnings and have heard of quite a few others--with and without intoxication. I'm sure both of us could tell stories, but they are privileged information.

    4. Perhaps I should specify that I was involved in the investigation of such cases as a forensic toxicologist--not as a participant.
