  1. All of that was done yesterday, but today is the last day of the lease. So I am going back over to paint gray deck paint over the big, fancy compass rose that I painted on the deck 8 years ago. As the artist, I painted it for ISC’s use, and don’t want to leave it for the pirates.

    1. Did the club just run out of steam, as many do?

  2. Thinking of sailing, last night I fell to reading about the sinking of the Andrea Doria; I well remember the newsreels and the Life Magazine coverage. It seems that over the years even more evidence of mistakes made by the crews of both ships has emerged. The unfamiliarity with new technology--radar--played a very important part, but was far from the only cause. The unanticipated appearance of the Ile de France, lit up like a Christmas tree, to the people in the lifeboats as the fog rose has impressed me as incredibly dramatic ever since I read about it.
