White-Throated Sparrow

Had four in our yard, biding their time
until the last of the snow melts off the Mountain.

Then they'll go up there, where they love to reside all Summer.

  1. Today's Dad update: He's feeling so much better, he is definitely going to call the doctor's office Monday to reschedule his surgery.

  3. There and back again (Maine). Just got home and have 20 min until the Neighbourhood Meeting. Heh.

Definitely did NOT give any attention to that England event.

    1. Fact is, it being a once in a lifetime historical event, I feel roundly cheated...since I just could not bear to watch his head receive the crown, and certainly not her head.

    2. Put me down for a prude if you will, but I find it exceedingly difficult to have sympathy for someone who cheats on his or her spouse. It is, however, very far from unprecedented in the English royal house. That such a person should be the head of the Church of England does not speak well of the latter, but extends to the church's founding.

    3. It's, at best, a ceremonial role. The actual head of the Church of England is the Archbishop of Canterbury (aka "The ABC").

    4. Once in a lifetime historical event? It's the second coronation in my lifetime. And given Charles's age, ti's likely that most of the people on this list will see a second. It's even conceivable, if unlikely, that I will see a third.

    1. Probably a hopelessly naive question, but does all this mean the war will be over soon and the Ukrainians will have won?

    2. I should say it augurs well for Ukrainian victory; beyond that I dare not opine. Collapse of the Russian Federation is certainly a possibility.

    3. I can see little hope for the war being over so long as Putin is in power. He has shown no sign of being willing to negotiate. And "Ukranian victory" must be defined. Before the war, Russia was in solid control of Crimea and separatist goverments allied with Russia controlled two eastern regions. Would a restoration of that status quo ante count as a Ukranian victory?

    4. I think there is widespread agreement that Ukrainian victory means reestablishing control over all its recognized territory.

    5. In other words, Ukrainian victory calls for conquest of territory they didn't actually control prior to the invasion. Especially in terms of Crimea, that seems a stretch.

    6. Rather like France regaining Alsace-Lorraine; couldn't possibly happen. Or Germany regaining the Ruhr.

  5. I am pleasantly astonished to tell you that the Neighbourhood Meeting went rather well. Mom in California told one of her son's friends and the friend's girlfriend they have 60 days to move out. Son is also selling one of the many cars they have at the house. So instead of 6 cars there will be 3. Much more workable. Also! The 10' x 20' structure will be leaving with the guy who is moving out, so that's all good news too. The obscenities and threats were shared as well and the son said it's not him it's his friends doing that. Well, Mom said that's not okay and son said if it happens when he's not there we should call the police (which we don't want to do if it can be helped). But we laid down the law (literally) of how our condo Association works and why we all need to be responsible for and respectful toward one another. Mom and son had a phone call after our meeting, too. Bodes well.
