    1. Come to think of it, wire fraud and money laundering could probably fill the bill, and are federal crimes. The nice point is that in order for the misdemeanors to be bumped up to felonies under New York law, they need only be done with intent to enable a felony-- the felony need not be carried out, specifically charged, or even prosecutable under state law.

    2. Josh Marshall: The Law Isn’t Brittle for Following It [Click] I think this is a good morning-after analysis of the contention that DA Bragg’s charges against Trump are weak.

    3. Well, to be technical. they are not the DA's charges. The grand jury indicted. The prosecutor performs a ministerial function. Many prosecutors have taken on more than the law expects out of habit.
The Trump cases are anomalous because of their reliance on juries. It is reported that in NY only 1% of cases go to trials. Even if they have money, many people cannot afford the time. Imagine, the next hearing is not until December!

    4. I gather Republicans - *all Republicans* - are taking the position that the charges are weak in themselves and the felony designation, not supportable. Interesting to see even Romney, who contends Trump is unfit for public office, jumping on that particular bandwagon.

    5. What I wanna know is how anyone can support DT using the John Edwards defense of his hushing not being to hide it from the American people but to hide it from his wife. The affair happened in 2006 and DT didn't need to hide it from Melania for 10 years, only needing to do so the month before the 2016 election? Gee, can a person SIGN UP for a jury? LOL

    1. From Digby's Blog:

"Wisconsin is one of the most gerrymandered states in the nation and a new Supreme Court could re-examine the maps to benefit democracy.

"This is a huge win for Democrats. There are no two ways about it. Last night’s victory offers a good snapshot of this moment and provides applicable lessons going forward."

  4. To let everyone know: I'll be leaving for Minicon science fiction convention in Minneapolis tomorrow morning. Will be back sometime Monday or maybe Tuesday. Should be able to check in from places like my hotel room that offer WiFi.

  6. Been sitting here reading the entries for 'TIKKUN OLAM' and sobbing my heart out--I miss my dad so much. . . . Next year is the 60th anniversary of his death. He was no religion, but never admitted it to me until I was having problems with the Mormons. That said, I never have known any human who spent more time, effort and love giving to other people. People he knew or didn't know, people with flat tires by the side of the road, drunks who needed a cup of coffee, someone else's teenage girl who needed a compliment, or boy who needed a job. Stray dogs who needed homes. . . . A little boy got run over by a train and lost his legs. We visited him morning and evening at the hospital, and for years after, Roy was part of our family's home evening/swim at Wasatch Springs.

One family from Idaho, flat tire, out of work, lived in our living room for months while Daddy found him a job, everyone a home, and dishes and clothes and towels, and made sure they stayed fed.

He died the year his first grand kid was born, and never saw any of them. There were 42 the year my d mom died, 1999.
