  1. Very thin clouds this morning, no rain or wind, can't see the mountains clearly, the river hasn't risen.

    1. There is a logical basis. The intentional termination of a pregnancy is within the jurisdiction of the state because unborn and born humans are property and the government is empowered to "protect" property. And human property or chattel, aka children, is typically handled in secret court proceedings. Indeed, it is this secrecy which accounts for half a million children a year being "taken" from parents and placed in foster care.

    2. I don't believe "secret" as the term is generally understood. What he was trying to do was to make sure the public didn't know about the hearing far enough in advance to attend in person or protest outside. But that cover has been blown.

  4. Got a call this morning from the orthopedic specialist's office telling me they made an error in scheduling. I had been scheduled for April 4th with the NP who specialises in knees, not wrists. But, would I want to come in TODAY and be seen by the wrist specialist who is Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at the Medical Center? { !!! }. As you can imagine, I said YES!!!

  5. California's Shasta County ditches Dominion Voting Systems : NPR [Click]

“If the county wants to try counting ballots by hand, it would first need approval from the secretary of state, and have to submit a proposal for a voting pilot program at least nine months ahead of the next election.

Until then, without choosing another vendor, Shasta County doesn't have a way to conduct elections at all. That's left thousands of county residents even more confused about the trustworthiness of its elections.”

Maybe they will vote with their sidearms?

    1. It doesn't surprise me that Kern County considered the same thing; that they narrowly rejected it does show that they are slightly less wacky.

  9. More ‘atmospheric river’ storms to sweep across California after days of rain and floods [Click] One wouldn’t know it here; it has been a beautiful day; the clouds are getting thicker, but aren’t at all impressive (6:20 PM). The reports of flooding seem to be from places particularly susceptible to same.

    1. I remember driving along the Russian River from Santa Rosa to the coast of California and noticing that the oldest houses were all on high ground. In Guerneville, the largest and busiest summer resort area, flooding during the winter was very common, and just regarded as a local cost of doing business.

    2. I lived in Cazadero - and got flooded - for the six months before I came back East and started searching for my property in WV. It convinced me that that was how I wanted to live: in the woods very close to a river. Cazadero is almost the wettest place in California.

      It's nine and a half miles west to Guerneville. . . .

    4. As memory serves me, rainfall in Cazadero is/was around a hundred inches a year. Yep, pretty wet. And was it Cazadero, or some place nearby, that had several notable family-style Italian restaurants? No, I am thinking of Occidental.

    5. When I lived there, it had a post office in a mom and pop, and a boat rental place. Period. Fire fighting station was nearby.
