(Susan) It's only in the last three years that I've been able to use my garage for its intended purpose. I have to say, it is *wonderful* to get home from the grocery in a rainstorm and still stay nice and dry while you unload your groceries in the car.
Statement on President Carter’s Health Feb. 18, 2023
ATLANTA (Feb. 18, 2023) — After a series of short hospital stays, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter today decided to spend his remaining time at home with his family and receive hospice care instead of additional medical intervention. He has the full support of his family and his medical team. The Carter family asks for privacy during this time and is grateful for the concern shown by his many admirers.
Yes indeed, a very fine man; his presidency had more than its fair share of problems. I remember hearing over the radio when the Iran hostages rescue went south, and he took responsibility for it. Later on it turned out that he had severe doubts about it being successful (probably based on his Navy experience), but yielded to his advisors' urgings. But having yielded, he then asked "What will you tell me if it doesn't work?"
Home!! Sweeeeet visit with grands ages 4, 7, and 9 3/4!
The nearly 10 year old mentioned he's decided not to go to college, he'll just breed dogs. Maybe! I think it has more to do with his current school teacher who gives TEN assignments for homework nearly every night. (That really sounds excessive for such a young age.) I'm sad for that, because he was a home schooler who loved learning, before he went to public school. He's immensely intelligent and a sweetie. He used to recite all the names of all the dinosaurs and knew the details about each, and even when we was three he knew all the Thomas trains by name. He's so bright, but equally sensitive. Too smart to be content following rote rules without question and too sensitive to bear the teacher's blaming when all the work isn't completed. I think next year will be better for him. But I wish I could scoop him up and home school him. He is such a natural learner at heart.
Of course, I do recall that his elder cousin thought at this age that she wouldn't go to college, she'd just raise chickens. That's VT*Grand She is now a high honour roll student in high school thinking about colleges.
7 year old grand has invented a "Calm Down Bunny" because she sees a lot of classmates that need help calming down. She has taken a long eared stuffed "Twinkle Bunny", opened the seams at the end of the ears and paws, and filled them with: left ear = art supplies right ear = music and bird call sounds (at the push of a button!) left paw = a squeeze today to relieve stress right paw = heart hug left foot = scented with thyme and other herbs for calming effect right foot = reminder to take 6 deep breaths
She has done a wonderful job with her explanation, presentation and artwork too.
And I'm not terribly surprised. At age 2.5, she was seen comforting a baby by singing Tooralooralooral, and when her baby sister was born, at their first meeting as the baby began to cry in her arms, she stayed calm and said sweetly, "It's okay. I'm here" in a very soothing voice, and the baby stopped crying!
That baby is now age 4 and very into gymnastics. Between 4 Chess games, tons of tumbling, and heaps of fun, they were all three sound asleep long before we had driven home. 😊 Gramie & Grandad Power! LOL.

^ She was all of 3.5 years old at the time too. Future psychologist? Doula?

DeleteYou are so rich, listener.
DeleteAh, yes, indeed. Thank you for that sweet comment. What delights my soul most in life is being with young children.
DeleteHahaa... I just noticed my typo. Instead of "a squeeze today" that should read "a squeeze toy."
