One teacher was told to destroy 2,200 Ukrainian textbooks. She hid them. Another was kidnapped and tortured for refusing to use the Russian curriculum. Parents were told that if they didn’t send their children to school the children would be taken to Russian orphanages. Russian soldiers with guns monitored classrooms.
Before the invasion it was reported that although Russian had been in common use in the region adjacent to Russia, most everyone had transitioned to Ukrainian in the last few years. What makes authoritarianism attractive to some people? Having someone else to blame for lapses or mistakes. It may be a consequence of punishing children for making mistakes. In other words, shifting blame is taught. Sort of like racism.
Don’t Question the Magic of Hocus Pocus [Click] “The more Bette Midler runs amok, the better.” A positive review of Hocus Pocus 2, with considerable reference to the original. Can’t say as I have seen the original, but both of them sound like good fun.
On Monday, the Russian military acknowledged that Kyiv’s forces had broken through in the Kherson region. It said the Ukrainian army and its “superior tank units” had managed to “penetrate the depths of our defence” around the villages of Zoltaya Balka and Alexsandrovka. Superior tank units? Consisting of Russian-made tanks, many delivered by the Russian army?

Winning hearts and minds does not seem to be part of the plan. The Ukrainians will remember this for a thousand years, and probably longer.
