BBC: UN inspectors view Russian-held nuclear plant [Click] “Back on the battlefield in the south, Ukraine's counter-offensive to recapture Kherson has a "good chance" of regaining control of the area without there having to be direct fighting in the city itself, a military expert says.”
Times Radio: If Ukraine wins back Kherson they could defeat Russia [Click] It seems to me that the Kherson Oblast counterattack is developing as a large scale siege. As Clausewitz pointed out, when besieged defenders have no hope of relief they will surrender. Maybe it is time for Ukraine to drop informative leaflets on the Russian forces.
Off topic--yesterday I stopped by the hospital to get a prescription filled, and saw their flu vaccination tent was up and running, so I got mine. They said they had started on Monday. No new coronavirus booster yet, but all in good time.
We got our grapes this morning--5 boxes, nominal 110 lbs but actually more the farmer said--so maybe 125 lbs? Or a bit more? All washed, bunches cut up a bit to facilitate drying, and set out in the sun.
We got word today that Wil's new book, O Wonderful Wonderful Wizard of Oz, is now available for pre-order through Barnes & Noble, Amazon and more. The news came ON VT*Grand's 15th birthday today. That's sweet because she was the inspiration for the book! The release date is still September 6th, but two big boxes of copies are expected to arrive here tomorrow. This is FUN!
California’s last operating nuclear plant gets a second life in contentious move [Click] Seven nuclear power plants have operated in California, of which six have been closed; several others were proposed and not built. The need for them has been met with energy conservation measures and by adjustment of rates for power generation that reward decreases in generation rather than increases. I am surprised that more states have not emulated the latter; it has worked very well.
