  1. Florida Tells Teachers Religion Belongs in Schools [Click] OK, now they need to come up with a workable legal definition of what “religion” is. Then they have to figure out how to work out a non-discriminatory way to work every “religion” into the school curriculum in a way that everyone will approve of. Good luck with that. Hmmmm. . . I'm reminded of a definition of "cult:" the other guy's religion.

    1. Hmmm. . . might we be able to look forward to joint protests at schools and school board meetings for say, fifty or a hundred different religions? Maybe for all at once, or for a particular one at a time? On a particular day everyone agitates for some particular strain of Roman Catholicism, the next day for Dianian Wicca, and so forth? Merry meet, merry part, merry meet again!

    2. My goodness, what a mess they've made. Freedom of religion is essential to the Founders' vision, yet I cannot imagine anyone with a hardened view ever allowing it. It's hard enough to get just various Christian denominations to worship together, let alone imagining the teaching of all faiths fairly, outside of a World Religions class. But, hey! If Florida wants to ensconce World Religions in their curriculum, that could really educate the younger generations! LOL.

    More clear evidence that we need more guns in the hands of civilians, everywhere and all the time. Yep.

  3. Supreme Court Withdraws from Public Scrutiny [Click]

    US Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis in Harper’s Weekly, Dec 20th 1913:
    “Publicity is justly commended as a remedy for social and industrial diseases. Sunlight is said to be the best of disinfectants; electric light the most efficient policeman.”

  4. Explosion of life on Earth linked to formation of earth’s solid iron core 550m years ago [Click] Only 550 million years ago? That’s a surprise. The scientist quoted evidently accepts without question the old theory that the atmosphere of Mars was stripped away by the solar wind; the more modern theory is that lack of tectonic activity on Mars interrupts the water cycle, trapping it in the subsurface rock as either water or chemically combined in rock.

  5. In final sprint toward deadline, here’s how California’s November ballot changed [Click] There are a couple of initiatives I will have to ponder, but mostly they seem pretty easy to decide on.

  6. Reflecting on the Fermi Paradox and the Drake Equation, it now seems to me that there are factors I hadn’t been aware of—and maybe Fermi and Drake weren’t either. A life— friendly solar system needs to form in a galactic “Goldilocks zone” where there are few supernovae (which can sterilize planets). Then there is the migration of planets:

    Why the Earth exists because of Saturn [Click]

    And then, quite possibly, it is necessary to the development of multicellular life that the planet have a very large moon, close enough that the center of gravity of the planet-moon system be well beneath the surface of the planet, both to cause plate tectonics and thereby both the water cycle and subsurface melting and migration of iron to eventually cause a solid iron core to form. So maybe such a combination is exceedingly rare. And consider that our moon was evidently formed by the collision of earth with a Mars-sized planet. Deep stuff.

    Well, I have to get dressed now.

  7. “It can’t survive if he’s our nominee. I think that he can’t be the party nominee, and I don’t think the party would survive that.”

    Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), interviewed on ABC News, on whether Donald Trump will be the Republican presidential nominee in 2024.

    Also: Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) acknowledged the possibility of a presidential run in 2024 in an interview with ABC News, but said she hasn’t “made a decision about that yet.”

    Are more Republicans getting religion? Rather than trying for a ticket to the Stony Lonesome?

    She got it once before;

    She’s the first one on the floor.”

    1. (Susan) Good God! That Michigan Secretary of State Candidate! Trump is like a magnet for the crazies. Of course he backs her. He's crazy too. Also she said "sexually transmitted" and we know Cheetolini is all over that.
