    1. Re terraforming Mars, the engineers' plan was that by warming the planet with carbon dioxide enough ice would melt and evaporate to restore atmospheric and surface water. Recent estimates are that most of the water that was there, still is there, but chemically combined into the rock and not recycled for lack of plate tectonics. The video linked above is nevertheless fascinating. It makes the point that we have long had the means and ability to go to Mars. We have remained earthbound not for lack of wealth or ability, but because we came to lack the will.

    2. Like children wanting a new toy when the old one gets dirty. Not content with working to destroy life on Earth they now want to make Mars inhabitable so they can make it UNinhabitable again.

  3. Affirmative Action requirements are addressed to governmental decision-makers who are to distribute benefits and services without regard to the personal attributes of requesting individuals. Albeit desired by some groups seeking compensation for past injustice, quotas based on applicant characteristics are inequitable.
That said, while governmental entities are precluded from directing the behavior of individuals, over the centuries there has been an increasing reliance on surrogate institutions to do just that by pretending they are somehow exempt. Controlling women by threatening the providers of prenatal care with license termination or other penalties, if they provide requested care is a most blatant example because it targets more than half the population.
However, what is being exposed is that the legal system based on the Constitution recognizes no personal or human rights. Only property is protected in the interest of promoting commerce. Thus, for example, the mission of the EPA is to insure the regular operations of industry by running interference and placating comlaining persons. They issue permits to pollute the natural environment because disposing of waste is what nature is presumed to be for.
Btw, New Mexico has been considering legislation that would affirm the rights of nature not to be poisoned.

  4. If you’d like a pithy read, here’s one by David J. Rothkopf, on how all the things the rightwing extremists are doing are linked.

It’s the guns, but it’s not the guns…

  5. This morning it is breezy and downright cool; the weather prediction is for a high temperature in the low to mid 80's F, a drop of more than ten degrees. Interestingly, the ten-day forecast is for a significantly higher temperature today than the daily forecast. Guess we'll just have to take the weather as it comes. Yesterday's national weather map showed pretty high temperatures back East, extending into and past Vermont. How is it in Jericho, listener?

    1. Was 80’s on Friday, but not too humid. The weekend promises hit and humid…rain and pushing 90°F for Saturday, more of same on as day with potentially severe thunderstorms.

  11. It seems that Boeing's StarLiner had problems yet again with the thruster engines or valves. But they won't be able to inspect them, because they are discarded after use. Does not sound good.
