  1. I had always assumed that Salisbury steak [Click] was named after the city in England, but not so!

  2. Heather Cox Richardson mentioned tonight that new US Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said, at her first press conference on Monday that "Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has slowed, and Ukraine appears to be gaining the advantage. Today, on Russian state television, defense analyst Mikhail Khodaryonok warned that the willingness of Ukrainian forces to fight for their homeland gave them the upper hand and that the world has turned against Russia. It was a remarkable moment, and Russia specialist Tom Nichols noted that, together with Putin’s weak Victory Day speech and the fact that Russian minister of defense Sergei Shoigu finally picked up the phone when U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III called, it might indicate a change."

    1. The US supplies of Javelin and Stinger missiles are being depleted by use in Ukraine, but the new howitzers should make up for that. Russia is supposed to have thousands and thousands of tanks, but the great majority of those have been parked outdoors for upwards of forty years with no maintenance. Both of Russia's tank factories are at a standstill for lack of high tech parts from abroad. Ukraine's head of military intelligence predicts a decisive change in August, and the end of the war in December.

    1. Well now, that's different! Do they want you to move to Qatar or to do some legal work from home?

    2. They want me and my sweetie to move to Qatar and work in their new five-star quality hospital. Fresno is hot enough for me. . .

  5. High temperature today (5-6 PM) 87F. My sweetie spent about an hour weeding, and I spent two hours, in the back yard (north side), overlooking the lake in the river bottom, with a nice little breeze out of the north. Warm but very comfortable. I hadn't expected it to be so nice. Tomorrow is supposed to be warmer.

    1. Gee--I had considerable doubts about the voters in his district.

    2. Probably not good news for the district's Democratic candidate (who keeps asking me for money)

  7. If the weather turns cold soon, it's all my fault--I brought my jacket and watch cap inside.

  8. The VT NH border had a EF1 tornado yesterday. It stayed on the ground for 5 miles and destroyed 1000+ trees and damaged several houses. I can't express how rare that sort of thing is in New England. Global Warming!
