I am having a chat with puddle! She's okay and asked me to post this:
Is everyone (these days) unaware of what life was like for a girl before Roe vs Wade? (Back then) We may have lost as many as 75 girls. They just disappeared from our population. It was divided between girls who had an aunt they could stay with until they had their baby (and returned to their parents but not to school) and those who didn’t seem to have an aunt but just disappeared. If you were rich you were sent to Sweden. Most came back to finish. Some just got married to the guy who did it. As far as I know none of those marriages lasted.
It seems odd to me that a majority of Supreme Court justices have not absorbed the lessons of the Fugitive Slave Act, the Dred Scott decision, and the principle of stare decisis. But nonsensical interpretations of the 2nd Amendment they're cool with. Not to mention corporate personhood--- a late 19th Century Speaker of the House said that a particular decision of the SC recognized that, but in fact it did not. That lie then took on a life of its own. -----Alan
Notes from my conversation with puddle... Mercury is in retrograde Her water tank is leaking, and her son is coming soon She still can't post, though she CAN and DOES read the blog! (Hi puddle!❤️) Tried but can’t get a satellite positioned anywhere except in the middle of the river…! Still hoping that the fiber optic cable folks will get a grant and complete their work, so she can use it.
Hi, puddle, from me. too. I'm still puzzled that others seem to be having problems while, for me, a minor change in the appearance of the comment box is the only thing I have seen. I'm still continuously logged in and no refresh except after I post or hit F5.

It's important to remember that, when I was growing up, Southern Baptists were _strictly_ congregational. The denomination had no authority whatsoever over individual congregations. When Falwel's followers took over they tried, with some success, to impose denomination-wide rules. That might conceivably have included some ability to tell congregations who they could have as their pastor.
I have no doubt the Southern Baptists have changed; but they sure seem to have gotten themselves into a terrible situation now. I have in recent years come to more fully appreciate the Methodists (my German ancestors were Lutherans, but in the next generation mostly became Wesleyan Methodists). I found it interesting that the Holiness Church is an offshoot of Methodism; they have some positions that are similar to mine, although in a Christian context. ---Alan

I was just watching a video about plugging abandoned oil and gas wells. [Click] I was moved to report an abandoned gas well down behind our house when I was very young; there’s probably little point in doing anything about it because there are so many earthquakes and natural leaks thereabouts, but I might be the only person left who knows about that particular well. When the store/our house burnt down years later the valve on the well might not have been closed.

I remember the homes for unwed mothers--common in larger cities.

I might be able to make things a bit better by changing or upgrading browser, but figure it is now good enough.

Christianity Today: Southern Baptists Refused to Act on Abuse, Despite Secret List of Pastors [Click] Washington Post: “The findings of nearly 300 pages include shocking new details about specific abuse cases and shine a light on how denominational leaders for decades actively resisted calls for abuse prevention and reform.”
