This cap is in honour of MY retirement! ~ listener

I actually have this cap!  It's a solid slate blue gray,
with the lovely embroidery
with even a bee embroidered on the back.
Perfect for working in the pollinator garden.

  1. Got up to 102.6ºF before I was able to get a glass of water and quaff a Tylenol.
That was 10min ago. No change yet.

I am SUCH a baby when I'm sick!

    1. Actually, temp went UP to 102.9ºF after I took the Tylenol. Then it wasn't for another 35 min before it began to come down. I think Covid is out to get me. But I'm fighting back!

    2. Wet stockings wrapped in a towel always worked for the kids (I have not had a fever in I don't know how long). The point is to draw heat away from the brain. Wet stockings will drain heat as they dry. They may have to be checked and wet again. Warm water is OK because it will feel cool to the feverish skin. When my mom came home with an infction after hip surgery, we had to put her in a cool tub. Stockings are a lot easier, but take longer.

    3. I didn't think Tylenol was supposed to do anything for fever. Aspirin and ibuprofen do, but Tylenol is a different sort of thing.

    4. Actually, Tylenol is a fever reducer and a pain reliever. The difference is that it's doesn't decrease swelling or inflammation.

Fever is finally down. I endured the mean headache as long as I could, but after my fever was down, I went ahead and took one Excedrin Migraine and it has quelled the headache a good 80%. Tylenol did nothing and Advil very little.

    5. When I was young I just about lived on aspirin for relief from what I now know to have been migraines; acetaminophen (Tylenol) and ibuprofen (Advil) were not yet available. Tylenol is easy on the stomach. Miyoko once finally gave in and took the doctor's advice to use ibuprofen for her lower back pain, but that sure was a mistake; she became more and more excited--the effect was similar to methamphetamine abuse (I know--I've seen it). Looking it up, that is a known, albeit rare, side effect of ibuprofen, and went away when she stopped taking the stuff.

  2. My rule on sickness as a child was:DON'T GET SICK! but if you do, don't complain, she has three other kids sick already besides you. Have never been able to change that. It's nearly impossible for me to report a pain level higher than a two even at the ER. Which then means you wait hours longer to be seen.

    1. My question from the previous thread: do you eat ramps? And this for listener: do you eat ramps? [grin]

    2. I don’t think so, since I must not know what they are. I mean, I wouldn’t want to disrupt wheelchair access, and wouldn’t ramps be hard on the stomach?

    3. I don’t remember being sick, but I imagine that my feeling around illness was coloured by nearly dying as a toddler.

Fever is down to 99.9°F currently.

    4. puddle, were you able to speak up and advocate for your children when they were ill?

      I was a mother bear.

    6. Search for: Are ramps up in WV yet?
How much can you sell ramps for?
A pound of ramps can run you $20 per pound, or $5 for a small bunch, though that price could go down as the ramp crop is expected to be larger than normal this year.Apr 10, 2015

    7. listener, no problem protecting my kids, lol!

Though with schools, you had to be careful not to become one of *THOSE* mothers. . . .

    8. Yay, Moms!

Never had that issue, because we home schooled. I think that was probably best for EVERYONE. 🤣

  3. Speaking of life rules. . . .If you decide to get married, don't announce it on April fool's day.

And BTW, my youngest and his girlfriend are getting married.

    1. Wil and I married young. Our life rule-of-thumb was to always assess ‘Who has the greatest need?’ From huge tuning points to what movie to watch, it has stood us in good stead.

  5. Can I be the only one who considers it really weird for the Russians to adopt "Z" as the symbol of support for Putin's War? Certainly Russians ought to have read enough of their country's history to know that when Admiral Togo hoisted the "Z" flag, it signaled the start of the Battle of Tsushima Strait.

    1. Not weird at all. They're just being consistent, given that every thing they do is insane.

  6. Thinking about Jan. 6, it has occurred to me to wonder why Trump didn't go to the Capitol when he said he would. I don't think he himself would have tried to storm the building, and if he didn't it's likely his followers wouldn't have either. So why is nobody asking this question?

    3. Laziness, as puddle said, but also if he had been *in* the fight he wouldn't have had the glory of having people fight "for him", which is the way he viewed it.

  7. listener, that hat is *gorgeous*!!

I never really got to retire--I took reduced SS at 62 because I couldn't work anymore because of my knees (Polymyalgia Rheumatica), and needed a ten year with no breaks recent work history which I didn't have to be eligible for disability.

    1. I got it from Etsy!

It’s rough getting by on SS, especially beginning at 62. And the R’s want to take it all away.

  8. One of the ironies and blessings of the PMR is that it tends to burn out after two or three years, mine did, and has never returned. Never even got diagnosed at the time. Not till my younger sister got it. and now one of my brothers.
