At heart, Rex-publicans are authoritarians. They like a figure-heead to blame for everything. A king chosen by the people is better than the hereditary kind and a rotating kingship gives more individuals a chance to "shine." On the other hand, the buying of the President was attractive because if fit the commercial mind-set. Even now the press focua on war chests clings to the myth that money buys prestige, regardless of how often it is obvious that the best-funded do not necessarily get elected. That the press refuses to provide coverage to candidates who do not buy ads is scandalous.

“Moscow initially sent 75 percent of its main ground combat forces into the war in February, Pentagon officials said. But much of that army of more than 150,000 troops is now a spent force, after suffering logistics problems, flagging morale and devastating casualties inflicted by stiffer-than-expected Ukrainian resistance.”
I am looking forward to the weekly update from Science magazine, due tomorrow, as well as to the Science News report. One question in my mind is whether this result, if confirmed, invalidates the basic framework of the standard model or implies that default assumptions about the numeric values of certain parameters need to be adjusted.
Lots of theoretical physics stuff going on these days. I think it was only a couple of days ago that there was a story in the news about someone developing a way of showing that quantum mechanics and the general theory of relativity were in agreement.
