* She was a Dominican nun in Massachusetts, not five feet tall, but she had spunk. She was always bumming a ride with some Monsignor or other to get to go out of state to visit a relative. (Nuns weren't allowed to travel alone.) I can just see her in her black habit, winking and giving a frank opinion on politics...and anyone she was lambasting would be mentioned with a hearty "God bless him." 🤣 (It *would* be a blessing for some of these characters to get some divine comeuppance, wouldn't it?)
I have just listened to a Harper Lecture panel on Ukraine with professors from UChicago (one of my alma matrae). Very interesting overall, but I was specially struck by info on troop numbers. Russia invaded with roughly 150,000 troops. The Ukrainian army has about 250,000 troops with an equal number of reservists. That's not counting armed civilians. (Apparently the entire Russian armed forces, including navy and air force, comes to some 800,000.)
