I've worked in offices, in academia, and at home. When I first started working at home the thing I most missed was the social interaction, but I found on-line relationships a substitute. When I was working at home, though, I was freelance,, so that's not really what she's talking about.

I got my hair dut today. That meant I was dressed, so I went out to dinner. (Marc only does a limited number of dishes and appreciates only having to cook for himself and Penny.) I went to Hemingway's Bistro, which I would call "fine dining' even though it's less espensive than that designation would normally imply in the Chicago area. True, I spent roughly $100, but that included salad, duck a la-orange, dessert, two glasses of hourse wine, and Irish coffee, plus tax and tip. I'd call it a special treat.
So good to have a great meal once in awhile. I don't think I've ever eaten such fine dining. Nice to get to go out while you also look your best, eh?
I'm still cutting my own hair and making nearly all our food here. If Covid ever settles down, we'll be able to eat out again. For now, I'd settle for some elegant takeout. But, of course, that's tricky given Wil's heart healthy diet.
It's been quite a day. Late last night I saw a news story telling that a high school near here was dealing with some threats. It's VT*Grand's school...!
Apparently, some right-winger students have been wearing flags to school like capes, which depict support for DT or other similar views. The school allowed it at first. Then other students began wearing LGBT and BLM capes and so on. Then on Thursday it got ugly. Students shouting at each other, and then some threatening to exercise their Second Amendment rights and bring guns to school.
So VT*Grand and 75% of the students opted to not go to school on Friday. There was a strong police presence and a LOT of conversation and strategic planning. Much of it was laid out before, but now it's been time to implement policies and imagine new ways to communicate and respond.
The school is doing well, all things considered, but it's still pretty unnerving. The police have determined there were no credible threats. But there's a strong "we're all in this together; report anything you see or hear that's of concern" understanding.
How I wish the school would go back to remote learning. I can't say how grateful I am that we home schooled. I wish all my grands were home schooling too. But so far, we're okay.
What a world. Stupidity and hatred are having their day.
Oh, my. When I was in high school clothing with messages was not permitted, and we were taught that the flag code said it was disrespectful to use the US flag as clothing.
