Nick Martin: “Before his censure, Congressman Paul Gosar made a big deal about having deleted the anime video depicting him killing AOC. Others in the Republican Party cited the deletion as a sign of good faith. Now, after the censure, Gosar has reposted the same video.”

And then: “And it’s gone. Congressman Paul Gosar took the anime video down again, this time after leaving it up for two hours.”

    2. Attention seeking. How to respond to it? If it is ignored, it tends to esacalate; attention leads to repetition.

“California will have so much money next year that state officials will likely have to give some of it back to taxpayers to meet constitutional limits on state spending,” the AP reports.

  3. Talking Points Memo headline: Omar Goes On A Tear In Response To Boebert’s Racist Drivel

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), the first hijabi ever elected to Congress, didn’t hold back last night after far-right extremist Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) called her a “jihad squad member” in an unhinged rant during the House’s vote on censuring fellow racist Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ).

Boebert is an “insurrectionist” who “defecates and defiles” the House and “sleeps with a pervert,” Omar tweeted.
The Democrat was referring to Boebert’s husband being sentenced to jail for exposing himself to two women at a bowling alley in 2004.

When a conservative commentator at the Daily Wire tried to mock Omar with a reference to a ridiculous conspiracy theory that she married her brother, the congresswoman shot back with “sorry that your family hates you.”

Omar also posted a screenshot of the Daily Beast’s roundup [Click] of all the Trump figures who’ve been arrested or sentenced since 2015. Republicans “scream ‘lock them up’ yet they are the ones facing criminal investigation and indictments,” the Democrat tweeted, adding “Keep exposing these vile hypocrites.”

Birds do amazing things. Such as this!

  5. Justices Will Likely Decide Biden’s Vaccine Mandate [Click] As far as I can see, the argument for why Jacobson v. Massachusetts (1905) [Click] should not apply is that in the latter case the Supreme Court approved of state legislation rather than federal executive power to establish vaccine mandates.

  6. ‘Zero-Covid is not going to happen’: experts predict a steep rise in US cases this winter [Click]

Josh Marshall A Reality Check on Vaccination [Click] Actually, the US as a whole is well vaccinated.

Josh Marshall: “No more dying from Covid”
I’ve mentioned a few times recently both Merck and Pfizer have new COVID-targeted anti-viral medications which dramatically reduce the chances of severe disease and death if taken early in the course of illness. Merck’s pill (molnupiravir) reduced the risk of hospitalization by 50% if taken within 5 days of symptom onset; Pfizer’s pill (paxlovid) reduced the risk of hospitalization by 85% if taken with 5 days onset and 89% if taken within three days.
Both treatments showed 100% efficacy against death.

From me: I doubt the Covid deniers will get themselves either diagnosed or treated within five days. That does make death even more optional than before.

  7. The sudden, uncomfy fall of the biggest pandemic fashion trend. Last year, we all thought we’d keep our sweatpants on as the world reopened – but now they seem destined for a mere supporting role [Click] Well, having come inside it is time for me to change into my retirement uniform: pajamas. In a nod to the season, they are flannel, and matched with wool socks.

    1. no socks for me. But glannel pahamas and a bathrobe. Unless I'm either on Zoom or going out. (I tend to schedule going out for days I'm on Zoom.)

    2. Wool bathrobe for winter accessory here. My old jacket is showing its age, but it has proven exceedingly difficult to find a replacement that both fits me and appeals to me. I don't like the Michelin Man look. But we don't have much winter here, so it isn't important.

    3. The kind of slippers I wore for a long time have become far too expensive, especially since I know the soles will fail in a way that makes them dangerous to walk in and impossible to repair. This Xmas I will experiment with slipper socks.
