Now that Amazon has bought MGM, does it control the “Apprentice” outtakes? As Stephen Colbert pointed out on his talk show, [Click] “If this is true, someday soon, Bezos may release the most racist thing in the MGM catalog, other than Gone with the Wind… Now, Mount Flushmore’s arch nemesis owns it all.” Is this the modern equivalent of the old advice that one should never pick a fight with someone who buys ink by the barrel [and paper by the ton]?
I spent the day tending 2 young grands so their parents could do some pre-moving to NH work. They had planned to load a huge U-haul from their storage site, then drive it to NH. They had about 10% done when they got a call that their eldest got injured at Farm School. A half-grown chicken gave him a mean peck right next to his eye. He'll be fine, but Mama had to go fetch him and bring him to me, while Dad (my Youngest) had to load 90% on his own. But he did it. They are now on their way and I am about to take a nap!
I've been to the grocery store for the first time in well over a yaar. (Marcus has been doing the grocery shopping.) About five blocks each way and I'm happy to say my legs held up fine.
We have been too inactive for our own good during the past year, but targeted massage and hot baths have gone a long way toward relieving accumulated tight muscles and resultant aches and pains for both of us. And that helps us to sleep better to boot.
New Covid-19 cases in Illinois have been under 1000 for four of the past five days. Very much headed in the right direction. This surge peaked at 4000.
From Huffpost: DISABILITY RIGHTS GROUPS JOIN GEORGIA VOTING LAWSUIT Three major disability rights groups in Georgia have joined the broadening coalition of people suing the state over its Republican-sponsored voter suppression law that severely restricts access to voting. “The change in the voting law creates new barriers for everyone but those barriers could be insurmountable for people who experience disabilities," said Devon Orland, legal director of the Georgia Advocacy Office.
He's still in Fairbanks because, even though every person going up to ANWR has had the Covid vaccine, they still had to have a Covid test when they arrived and after the results came back negative they have to wait 5 days and have another test and wait for those results before heading north.
Then they will drive due north from Fairbanks for 30 hours (3 stretches of 10 hours). When they get up that far, then they have to wait for transport into camp on the Canning River, at the coast of the Arctic Sea. Usually they get flown in by plane and have to hike with their gear for aways. But this year they are going in via helicopter, so won't have the big hike, but a helicopter can only carry so much, so it will take 2 days to get everyone and all their gear into camp. So they should be in place and set up by around June 7th.
That's okay, though, because currently it's still snowing like crazy up there, and the birds won't arrive on the shore until the season shifts into Spring mode. But that happens VERY swiftly when it does! As he said, it comes in like Spring on steroids. Soon it will be warm, even hot, like in New England. Then the area will be back to Fall weather by August.
Forgot to mention that he's psyched about the long drive, because it's through pristine wilderness and over the beautiful Brooks Range. They have already seen many Moose, including babies, Grizzly bear and Caribou, etc. He's been to Denali too, on an equipment run. They can go out and about together, they just can't interact with anyone in town until they're cleared.
I remember driving by Denali---IT IS HUGE! Another time I drove south on Interstate 5, which goes over a spur of Mount Shasta. Only when you get that close can you begin to realize how big it is.

DeleteBad week for KPS. Watching a whole lot of Tudor stuff. Richard Burton has gorgeous legs.
ReplyDeleteI liked him in The Robe, though come to think of it, I enjoyed the book more, no doubt due to reduced ability to enjoy the view. :D
DeleteKPS?
DeleteI read the book The Robe, but don't think I've ever seen the film. Worth hunting it up?
