Farm School

  1. I guess this 3" of snow turned out to be a major storm here after all, because the roads got icy and a lot of people had already switched from snow tires to Summer tires. There were at least three major multi-car crashes in the local area.
*A pickup hauling a long trailer carrying vehicles was turning right, into a car dealership, and a tractor trailer truck plowed into it. Both drivers got non-life-threatening injuries.
*Then there were several cars that found a bridge too slippery on the interstate, and that side of the interstate had to be closed for awhile. Not sure what injuries, if any.
*And late evening, a tad south of that last crash, another multiple vehicle crash took place, requiring helicopter transport.
I'm holding everyone involved in the Light.
I'm so glad we were able to just stay home.

    1. Oh my. I just learned that, due to the weather, helicopters cannot fly tonight. Instead, 10 ambulances were called out. Yikes...!

  2. BTW, Farm School is where VT*Grandson (who turns 8 on Monday) goes two days per week to learn about animals and how to care for them. It's a small group of 6 kids and 3 teachers. The kids do real chores and are watched over, but also trusted to treat the animals well and do their work with competence. The animals are cow, chickens (including chicks), goats (including baby goats), a rabbit (and baby bunny), and more. He loves it there! And I got to pick him up at Farm School a week ago. I love being fully vaccinated!

    1. We can hope that it led a full and happy life, but at the same time regret that it did not pass away surrounded by family and friends.

    2. Awww, poor ol' Bunny. Do you think it's been sick (like, rabies?) or simply that it was just an old Bunny whose time had come? Either way, it's so good that you provided a quiet, safe yard to live out the last days. All things considered, there are worse ways to go.

I'm glad Bunny found your peaceful yard. Just sorry you had to witness it and be sad for the Bunny. But I guess witnessing it is really a privilege...the wild kingdom.

  4. Biden planning to soak the rich; Bloomberg clutches its pearls. [Click] Top marginal tax rates used to be far higher, and there were socially helpful ways to avoid them.

  6. HOT TIP:
I heard on NPR today that there is a now a home Covid test and it is highly accurate. It's an antigen test, which can tell you if you are, right now, contagious with Covid.

    It's called BinaxNOW™ COVID-19 Self Test and it's a rapid, real-time test.

Mind you, we've had the vaccine, so that ought not to be an issue. But remember that the vaccines are only 95% certain and that there may yet be a variant that slips through.

I recommend getting a pack (it comes in a pack of 2 tests) and keeping it on your shelf incase a variant breaks through. Because, if you wait until one does, the test is going to sell out fast!

It's available at CVS, Walgreens and (I hate to add) Walmart. Costs about $24 for the pack of 2, and they hope the price will go down over time.

    2. I remember using Binax screening tests in hospital labs for various infectious diseases. Very convenient, and fast enough to guide treatment in the ER.
